View Full Version : DivX Encoding using Fast Recompress Mode or how to resize/crop wo Filters

Hi,
since the new VDub Mod 1.51 has been released, the old MPEG Handler and the Resize/Crop Dialog has gone.

DivX Encoding:
With Version 1.4.x i could do the Resize/Crop rigtht after opening the VOB.
So i could activate the "Fast Recompress" Video Mode, because i didn't have to use any Filters for my standard operations.

Since it seems to be impossible to do the Crop/Resize right after opening the VOBs, i would have to use filters, which needed to activate the "Full Procession Mode".

Another Option would be to use AviSynth, but for what than the ability to open VOBS.
This doesn't seem to make sense.

Does anybody know a way to make the resizing/cropping without using Avisynth or the VDub Filters??

Greets,
TCD

It's generally a very good idea to always use Avisynth and never use Virtualdub's filters, since they only work in RGB32 anyway.

This confuses me, because for DivX i wanted to use YV12 and the Fast Recompress Mode...
DivX is always YV12, so for what should i use RGB32??

I will probably use the fast Dr.DivX, if no further editing is needed.

Thankx,

If you want to resize in VDub then you'll have to do it in full processing mode. In full processing Vdub automatically converts your video to RGB. Most of us here use DVD2AVI to get the VOBS, demux the sound and make a project file then we resize and/or filter using avisynth 2.5 or later (which have better resizing than Vdub's) and fast recompress and mux audio with VDubMod. This allows us to stay in YV12 colourspace all through the process avoiding VDub's unnecessary colour conversion.

Unfortunately I've never come across a DVD source where NO filtering was needed, as all of them I've seen require a FieldDeinterlace at the bare minimum. Otherwise my life would be a lot simpler...

Isn't the codec able doe do field de-interlace??

The German ones normaly don't....

This is almost the same way, i convert my movies, with few exeptions.

1. I use the Smart Ripper to rip, let him demux the AC3 in an extra File using Besweet to produce either MP3/Ogg or MP2.
2. I skip the DVD2AVI Process completely, because the Smartripper (in Movie Mode) writes a D2V Project File, if you activate the "create index File" in the Settings Page. (ever heard of any Problems with that???)
(this probably doesn't belong to this thread anymore, but if you know, or have a direct link to a thread, i would be very pleased to know/get)

If it is necessary to use another Tip Mode/Ripper i'll do exactly the same..

Doing MPEG2:

Use AviSynth 2.51 and CCE, mux w. BBMPEG

Doing MPEG 4

Used directly VDUBMOD1.4.x (VOBS wo Sound) and its Import Resizers.
Is it right, that the old resizer implemented somewhat of AviSynth Resizers? I read of "OGO MMX Resizer"
Which Resizer is it, when using AviSynth???
I couldn't fin a (standard) MMX Resizer?
Or is this probably the bilinear one or a plugin???
I have no clue....
(this again probably doesn't belong to this thread anymore, but if you know, or have a direct link to a thread, i would be very pleased to know/get)

Since the old resizer of VdubMod1.4.x detected all VOBs and Resized/cropped absolutly correctly, it has been very comfortable to use the "VOB direct input" of VDUBMod (when having a good source, and not needed any special tasks).

The Conclusion is just to use AviSynth 2.51 for DivX always. OR for a good source an no special/further editing use sthg. else...

Thanks and greets,

You can use ffdshow to resize. I am using ffvfw to encode and there under input you can configure ffdshow to crop and resize.
then you can encode with fast recompress in vdub mod without vdub filters or avisynth.

You can also do cropping within the codec settings on the "General Parameters" tab.
