View Full Version : Very Low Bitrate in CCE using DoCCE4u

Hi, I am sorta new to using DIF4U & DC4U, & i did the steps that were listed in the guide here but then when CCE came up it said that my avg bitrate was going to 918. I found that to be really strange & am not sure what to do. I am trying to CCE reencode MI2 ... just the main movie only at this point, So I seleted it only & in the Field where u are suppose to put how many MB for menu & extra I put 1, so that my main movie would "look the best."
However my bitrate is still only 918? Any Ideas?
"S:\#DVDR\MI2\VTS06\VTS__06_P01.16~9_1.AVS",0,9352,918,0,5
You should be aware that DIF4U is a tool that is developed for doing complete backups and not just movie-only without menus and stuff.
There are easier ways to do that than using DIF4U.
I think what happened was, you checked only the main Titleset (as you said), so the rest of the original DVD is left untouched and copied over to the folder where difu demuxed the main movie titleset ("untouched" files are then in a VIDEO_TS folder).
Based on the size of the copied ("new") VIDEO_TS, the length of your movie you wish to encode and the size of the selected movie soundtracks the bitrate will be calculated to fit on one DVD-R.
And so it's no wonder that it doesn't calculate a high bitrate, because it envolves the whole DVD in the calculation and not only your checked Titleset.
There seems to be some more or less huge extra-stuff on your original DVD and because you didn't check it, it will be taken 1:1 without reencoding (--> which leads to an already huge "new" VIDEO_TS in the demux folder).
You really have to be aware for what purpose dif4u is developped. This is no "fault" of DoCCE4U, 'cause it doesn't do any bitrate calculations for you, it's done by dif4u. And it's also no fault of dif4u, 'cause dif4u calculates the bitrate aiming to 1:1 backup, not just movie-only.
I hope, I could clear things up a little bit.

By the way:
If you really would encode extras with a bitrate of 1 kbps, don't wonder when CCE freezes during encoding.....
I already had that problem using a bitrate of 500 for extras and it freezed. Other users also seemed to run into trouble with CCE when using very low bitrate.
Based on my experiences ~1000 kbps is a quite "healthy limit" for a "non-freezing-encoding-experience" :D
If you drop it lower and CCE freezes, don't say you haven't been warned ;)

Ahh I never knew that, I htought that if all i checked was the main movie files, that would be the thing i wanted to process.
Hmmm Is there an alternative then? I wanna encode just hte main file using CCE.

Hi Edekba,
I am also new to the world of DoItFast4U & DoCCE4U. (having used only DVDShrink and IC7 till now)
I think that DVD2DVD-R will do what you want and it automates the IfoEdit as well to give you VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders that can be burnt directly to DVD-R.
I've only tried it a couple of times but it seems to work ok.
Cheers...

I just wanted to say that your response was excellent. I couldn't and wouldn't have been able to say it better myself!

Just a quick Yes or No question to help a new guy -
I just finished doing Godfather II, disc one (7.01GB main moive) and I only checked the main movie (I know better now thanks to above). The only "extras" on this disc were the title menus for selecting Play Movie and Languages etc.
After doing DIF4U and then DoCCE4U, I only got back 4.05GB (total of 4.24GB including audio).
Am I correct in thinking the shortfall difference is because of me only selecting the main movie but DIF4U is calculating for the WHOLE disc, inluding my non-selected menu items ?
Thanks for you help.

I've Tried DVD2DVDR ... it comes out all shaky gives me a headache. I think becuz IFOedit cant do NTSC disks ... or that what i've read from this forum...
I did MI2 using DIF4U but manually calculated the bitrate to be 4400 avg & then i authored it using Spruce Up. Works okay but still a little shaky, the movie... I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.
I used the video & audio stream generated from DIF4U & DC4U ... so it should be that, unless I authored it wrong. But I dont think tha would cause the Video to be shaky either.

Thx :)
I must admit that I had no idea how to use your tool, when I first got in touch with it, but after some testing I saw how all is working together and then I understood :)

P.S.: maybe your explanation would have been a bit better, 'cause I'm no english native-speaker :D ;)

Yup, I think that should explain it. The difference should be your menu stuff.
Did you check "Create VIDEO_TS...." in Global Options?
In that case the untouched files will be copied into a VIDEO_TS folder into your demux folder. It contains everyting that wasn't demuxed, including all IFOs, BUPs and also menu-files (mostly VTS_xx_0.VOB)
