I had a similar problem with a foreign DVD I did... in Scenarist there were subs and they seemed to process fine (no big error messages), but both in DVD-Rom and standalone there were no subs! I just did this one 2 days ago with the most recent versions of the big 3.

but they worked from HD right ? isnt that so weird ? i had no errors at all even.....but still they work from HD in powerdvd...but not from a burnt disc...i hate it, what to do now ? it all works but the subs! :(

No, they didn't work from HD... but I could clearly see Scenarist processing the subtitles. I've never seen that problem before.
If I read in one of the changelogs somewhere there was a small subtitle fix? I can't remember which...

well then you have a problem that probably can be fixed.....but my thing is really weird.....i can see them in scenarist, compiling goes all ok, no errors....i can switch subs in powerdvd....but when i burn the disc they dont play anymore in my standalone.....i have looked into the ifo's ...but they have both the exact same mapping for the subs.....

In 1.1.0.14, something seems to be wrong with the latest version of vobsub that Gabest sent me, it is not putting 3 lines in the .sst that need to be there.
The lines that are missing are:
PA (0 0 255 - - - )
E1 (255 0 0 - - - )
E2 (0 0 0 - - - )
BG (255 255 255 - - - )
I'll be releasing a fixed version soon, as soon as I can get a hold of Gabest!

i didnt.....but why does it still work in powerdvd then ? and why do other titles i did the exact same do work on both pc and pioneer ? that is weird....oh well i try again and let you know.
wait a minute...i just did...but i thought you have to make sure you do NOT use that copy option, since it copies the authored tables over the original ones...which isnt good since u want to keep the original structure of the dvd......now i have only 3 subs streams listed.....while the original has like 10 or so.....if it works it ok by me...but its not like it should be.

I think you're confusing 'copy audio and subpicture table' with 'copy color table in each PGC'.
Would be nice to have some ifoupdate documention eh? :D

i think were both confused here....if you say
"copy sub color tables in ifoupdate?"
then i assume youre talking about the 'copy audio and subpicture table', since thats the only line mentioning SUBpictures.....oh well...too bad then i guess...cause that means i did it right after all.....but it just doesnt work damnit.

well it might work...but its NOT making the copied disk having the exact same structure as original...which is the goal of "the big 3" and reauthoring in scenarist if im not mistaken.....it even says in the doom9 guide NOT to check the copy audio & subpicture tables.....

Why would you want subtitle streams present in the .ifo that are not present on the DVD? I personally don't. And I don't think many others would either.
As for the guide, I'm well past guides, I discover and test things on my own and I know what works for me and what doesn't.
If you want to know my 'tried and true' approach:
For Extras VTSes:
Uncheck Copy Audio and Subtitle Tables.
Check Copy Subtitle Colors (usually pointless because there's no subs, but I do it anyway!)
Uncheck Get VTS Sectors (no need to do this over and over)
For Main VTSes: (I do these LAST)
Check Copy Audio and Subtitle Tables.
Check Copy Subtitle Colors.
Check Get VTS Sectors. (yes, I use the feature from ifoupdate and don't have problems. Knock on wood, I guess.)
Keep in mind that Doom9 himself does possible ONE DVD every month, whereas I do DVDr daily.
Also keep in mind that Doom9 has ME proofread his DVDr guides before he puts them out. I just didn't catch that one. It really depends per DVD anyway. You kinda have to understand how the .IFO works vs. how the settop plays.

ok sure....but i assume u mean "copy color table in each PGC" instead of "Check Copy Subtitle Colors" ;)
i will try your theory....tomorrow after i got myself a dvd-rw...im sick of burning useless discs....
how does the ifo work different in powerdvd as opposed to a standalone then ? i would like to understand that...cause normally like when a dvd gets authored in scenarist, they never use ifoupdate stuff....and if works in scenarist itself, in powerdvd and it scenarist own proofing dvd player....then why the heck doesnt it work in a stand-alone? id sure love to know your theory on that.....

PowerDVD uses the .ifo differently. For instance, if you original .ifo says 0x20,0x21, PowerDVD will display it fine, yet your standalone will display nothing.
I'm not gonna get into the finer details of it, but that's it in a nutshell.

my pleasure ;)
Thx for fixing, 'cause I had the same problem with my last DVD using 1.0.0.14 :)
Subs were present in Scenarist, selectable in Standalone (Pio 444), but were not displayed.
