View Full Version : Best at 2x G03 burning: Dru500a vs a05 vs a04
I have a about 150 ritek G03 blanks to burn (actually have a backlog of about 30 dvds to burn). And most likely my next 200 will also be G03. However, I have been too lazy to update my firmware on my a04, and furthermore too skeptical about the quality that it will give. I'm about to buy either a sony or a a05 if they can give me more reliable 2x burns with the G03's. Any one want to give me some advice here?
One last thing, what is the latest word on which firmware to use (for both my ao4, and my future purchase, probabley the a05)? I hear the 2x4all is used a lot, should I update to that? And are there any dangers in doing so? Also where to I find the firmware and instructions?
Thanks
Actually, excellent though the Sony is (I use one myself), if you're only going to be burning G03s then you might as well save the money a Sony would cost you and just buy the Pioneer (£169). Anther excellent writer for 2x media is the Panasonic 9581-C (http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/Hardware_Section__.html) which is £149 including 25 free NanYa disks.
A friend of mine bought one of these and it really is a surprisingly good writer with great results on my Traxdata (Ritek) G03s, and even my old Infiniti disks which my Pioneer 104 used to do mediocre writes with.
Arky ;o)
...actually the prices for the a05 and the sony DRU500ax is a draw where I am buying at. The Sony is interesting because I have a suspision that the prices for the dvd+r will take a dip (normal +R is already pretty fast.... but I just wanted to know if they are equally as good for the G03's.
So no one is having problems buring the G03's with the lastest firmware now? Also which burning program are you guys using the the Pioneers now? I heard a lot of success with RecordMax, and sparadic problems with Nero....
Well I use Nero with my DRU-500ax and 95% of the disks I burn are G03 Traxdata Riteks. I've burnt nearly 90 of these now and not had a single coaster yet (honest). I can't fault the combination.
Never used the A05, but I can say that IMHO the DRU-500ax wipes the floor with the old Pioneer 104 I used to have. It's more reliable.
Arky ;o)
RecordNow Max won't burn a disk when the video file is corrupt. Until now I have never get RecordNow Max to burn a coaster.
With Nero I had that problem and PrassiPrimo DVD they burn coasters (Burning on RW to be safe.)in my case.
Why would your Video Files be corrupt? It seems unfair to say Nero burnt coasters with corrupt source files, when one shouldn't be feeding it corrupt files in the first place. Do you have HDDs with bad sectors?
Arky ;o)
I have had three movie's that played great in IfoEdit. No problems.
RecordMax Now did not burn one of them because of errors. PrimoDVD and Nero burned them without problems but were coasters on RW. I have had one coaster on a DVD+R by ignoring RecordMax Now and burn it with Nero.
I'm using Nero for normal cd's and think it is the best program at the moment to burn data, sound and SVCD's but having the latest update I have trouble burning video cd's. I'm not attacking Nero it is a great program but for dvd's I have problems with Nero and try to say for people like me it is nice to have a program that refuse to burn when it incounters problems.
And no I don't have bad sectors on my hdd.:D
My knowhow of videofiles is basic I follow the guids and faqs and for the difficult questions I come to doom9.
Still no answers yet on those questions I placed here so it is nice to have a program that don't burn when there is a error.;)
