View Full Version : Maestro Dual Layer settings
I want to create a DVD 9 with MAESTRO. So I created a Dual Layer Break in the movie timeline. I do not know how to check if this breakpoint is set correctly or not. I cannot simulate it and if I look at the Project Properties under Replication there are Dual Layer Options which I can select. However these options are grey and not active.
Can someone help me with this subject. Thankx

This is something like trial and error to me...
Anyway, if you DON't put a layer break, you'll be able to choose a layer break from the chapters that you have created...
So, the Dual Layer break is useful when you want to have the layer change in a scene that, for instance, has a fade-out, BUT you don't want to have a chapter change also...
I personally check the bitrate of my movie and from that you can approximately tell in which minute you reach the Layer 0 limit...
Another trick is to trim the video in the timeline so as to make the Bit Budget just under 4.750 (which from my experience is the limit for a DVD-5). When you reach that, place your dual layer break there...
I'm assuming you want to deliver in DLT for mass replication, because this is the only reason to put a dual layer break. Otherwise, just compile the project and watch it from your PC!
So, to have the Dual Layer options active you have to compile the project and then create a Disc Image file...
When you press the Create Disc Image file(ALT+D), if you press Properties afterwards in the pop-up window, you'll be able to choose where the layer changes and also what kind of dual layer you're creating (OTP and PTP)

be wary that you may have to provide 2 DLT's to the plant, 1 for each layer, and you MUST mark each tape as Layer 0 and Layer 1 so they dont accidentally put them the wrong way around ;)
