View Full Version : Nashua Media warning
Hi
At the moment Nashua media are on offer here in Holland.I have bought some to and burned five dvd+R.
Although they play well at the start the image started to frees when your over half of the dvd media. I have made backups of the movie's with DVD+RW from Imagion without problems.
The media's are made of a new material made by BAYER.
I was able to bring them back other firms won't be so helpfull so be warned.
NASHUA, Speed 2.4 DVD+R 10 packs EURO 17,95
The problem only seems to occur with the NEC ND-1100

Nope, I just got my NEC ND1300 and found out that my first +r frooze @ exactly 40 seconds.. So it's quite possible that the nec 1100 is not the only one... :(

This "new material from Bayer" (called Makrolon) is simply Bayer's brand name for polycarbonate. Nothing particularly new or exiting about that.
Did you check the manufacturer ID of the media?

I've brought the Nashua media's back to the shop so I can't give you the ID. Maybe someone else?
The shop confirms that the Nec dvd writer ND-1100 has problems with the makrolon Nashua disks. It seems to be Ricoh devices or delivered by Ricoh. It is possible that the ND-1300 have the same problems.
I have burned with the NEC ND-1100 Datawrite, platinium, Imation and the more expensive Nashua's (Not the makrolon type.). Also the Imation RW+R and the Nashua RW+R. Al my copies work on three diverend stand alone dvd players without any problems.
I did not get Riteks +r or Princo's +r yet but will try them.
I also burned the Nashua makrolon dvd+r with max speed maybe they work when burned 1x speed. I did not bother to try that.:D
I use dvddecrypter for iso burning and stomp recordnow max for VIDEO_TS files.

The material of _any_ DVD-R (or CD-R) is polycarbonate (they just call it makrolon if it's from Bayer). So nothing special about it (apart from the fact that it might be a good quality polycarbonate) :).

Thanks, Buddy!
One more question : what recording soft do you use?
I use the NeroExpress, which was supplied on disk with recorder ( ver. "5.x.x.13 NEC"). I tried the latest Nero update ( 5.x.x.35), but recorder just hanged while writing lead-out.

For ISO files, meaning dvd5, I use dvddecrypter. For the Ifo's Bup's and vobs or stript movies I use stomp RecordNowMax. This program does not burn when the files are corrupt. You need an xp-engine update for this so it recocnize your burner.

Nashua brought out a new lot without the MAKROLON text on the dvd disk. I have tried one and they give me no problems. Has anybody tried this disk in a Nec 1100 and do they have problems with this disk?:D
