Hello,

Here in Brazil there's some stores selling printable DVD-R "SONY" media, that only records at 1X (tested in Pioneer A04).

The dye is light purple (very much like optodiscs), and the quality of the media is average to low... I think it is a little worst than the well known RITEK G03.

ADVDInfo shows this:

00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 89 0E 13 .B...@....P.....
87 88 80 00 03 53 4F 4E 59 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 .....SONY.......
00 00 00 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 ................

What do you guys think? It's the same case of Princo's faking TDK id?

Cause i don't think Sony would really sell a media so cheap and low quality...

Cya!

I believe sony have recently gone though a media manufacturing change in a effort to save $$$. They used to use Taiyo Yuden for their CDR's but the last 300 we went through were ID'd as sony and had a green/grey tint vs they Taiyo Yuden light blue.

However they seem to have switched back - (unless out supplier is selling old stock).

I would be placing my money on the fact that Prodisc Technologies are the manufacturers of the new sony media, and that it is infact offically licenced, not faked code. Nowever I have no real factual basis for making the above assumption, with the exception of a forum member saying the received spindle packs of ACCU DVD-R discs which were ID as both Pordisc and Sony.
