The problem I had regarding the movie sound was that it was too quiet, when I was watching the movie on TV, but ok, when I was watching it on my PC.
Then I got a look to my log files produced by BeSweet. I saw that the loved OTA "-hybridgain" flag asserts only a gain of 6.0db to the file (I used "Mulholland Drive" for testing) and in case of the "-g max" flag I got an overall track gain of 13.366dB. The results of both files did not satisfy me, because they were still to quiet for watching the movie on TV. I had to increase the volume bar on my TV to an abnormal position to get the normal audio loudness, which had negative effects like an increased noise!
So I tried to increase the overall track gain to 25db (OTA -g 25db). And now I'm satisfied with the result on TV. I can leave the normal audio loudness of my TV, when watching a self-encoded movie and switching back to a channel of my cable programs. On PC the file is of course louder than the others, but then I can decrease the audio loudness. That is ok with me! I am going to use OTA -g 25db flag for the future.
BTW. Same problem with quiet movies, when watching the movie on PC, but sound comes out from a HiFi-System and not, like in my case, out of head phones.
Has somebody else experienced something similar or else (e.g. that he can say I do not have to increase the sound on my HiFi-System or TV)?
A suggestion for the guides at Doom9: Maybe someone should write down all the important setup stuff, regarding audio & video, for watching self-encoded movies on TV that differ from the setup of watching movies on PC. Maybe we can start to collect different experiences & info with this thread...
Oh, I forgot to tell, my standalone player is my PC. :D I am using my TVOut! And I only encode with DivX Pro!
