View Full Version : Possible DIF4U Subtitle Problem

Hi All,

I am most definately a Subtitles novice, so this problem may well be caused by VobSub 2.23 , not DIF4U 1.1.0c.

What I Did:

Mounted Bad Company ISO (PAL, Region 4) in DIF4U, and left all 11 subtitle streams to be demuxed.

Options selected;

- Global Options
- > Autocreate all folders for this DVD
- > Create VIDEO_TS using unused VTSes (and CCEDATA.txt)

- Working Directory
- > Create folder for this VTS

- Optional Switches
- > VobSub PGC = ALL

I then set ReAuthourist beta 6.05 to encode and authour, then imported into Scenarist and authoured the DVD. I then used IFOupdate 0.71 to get VTS sectors, used Imgtools to create an ISO, then used DVDDecrypter to burn to DVD-RW. Upon testing I noticed not all subtitles where displayed correctly.

What I Found:

- Only non forced subtitles in PGC 1 other than english were effected. When displayed they only show the black subtitle outline, whereas the english ones show the black outline with white center as the original substreams.

- SST files created by DIF4U for non forced subtitles in PGC 1 other than english had these differences;

Working English sst;

Color (10 3 8 3)
Contrast (13 15 0 15)

Incorrect Nederlands sst;

Color (3 3 8 10)
Contrast (15 15 0 13)

- Noticed that all the values of incorrect SST's are correct, just that the first and last values have been swapped around.

- BMP files created for non forced subtitles in PGC 1 other than english were also different. The text in the effected BMP's have blue background, black outline and white center, where the uneffected english ones are the same except for a red center (see attachment).

Anybody Have An Idea Of Why This Is Happening?

I as yet still to try manually extracting the subtitle streams with VobSub, but have no idea what could be causing this. Any ideas?

Vobsub uses random colors for the bitmaps, but puts the colors it chooses into the .sst so Scenarist gets it right. This is according to the author, Gabest. So no matter what color values you see in the .sst (and they may very well be random) they should still look fine after importing with Scenarist. Mine always do.

Mmmm, looks like I'm "special" then ;). I tried manually editing the colours in the SST, but it didn't have any effect in Scenarist :( . I might have to draw Gabests attention to this one, I'm trully stumped :confused: .

*edit*

I suppose you get this a lot Eyes`Only, but DIF4U is a great product :D (I know talk is cheap, I'll donate as soon as I've got a worthwhile amount to spare)

Thanks, it's always nice to hear, and I would of course appreciate a donation whenever you can manage it.

Gabest works well with us, hopefully he'll be able to fix your issue. I assume you've tried to import manually not using RA?

Based on the files you submitted to me, I believe the subtitle bug has been found and fixed. Please try 1.1.0.15 and let me know if it makes the .sst correctly now.

Excellent! Thanks Eyes`Only, you're a champion! I'll set it going tonight and let you know. :D

Hi Eyes`Only,

Thank's again for all your help, I really appreciate it :) . Anyway, I tried demuxing the subtitle streams again as above, except this time with 1.1.0.15, but unfortunately I'm getting the same result with the BMP and SST files as above :( . Although I'm yet to import into Scenarist (encoding atm) I'd doubt there will be any change.

I looked through the IDX file, but couldn't see any noticable differences between the sections for the different languages, but then again I have little to no idea what I'm looking for :rolleyes: .
Aquabubble has been trying to help me to from the RA side, and has given me some commands to enter into my RA authoured SCP file which I'll do as soon as I've made some changes to it for PAL instead of NTSC.

Please import.

Righto, shall do. This project takes about 1.5 hours to import on my machine because of all the subtitle streams, I let you know how it goes.

Still no good on the RA front, but haven't tried a manual import, or the changes Aquabubble sent me yet. I'll do that now.

BTW Eyes 'Only, is your site down, or is it just my ISP?

seems to work for me.

Aha, works wonders when you clear your browser cache

This is too weird. Having the idea this problem might be machine, or movie specific, I set my Windows 2000 gaming machine going with the PAL region 4 version of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It also had the same problem. The English subtitles came through fine, however the Greek subtitles were not as the original. Both projects only seem to demux streams 0x20 and 0x21 correctly which I wonder is relevant?

Well it looks like it's my SCP file :(

I was able to manually import the SST file into my project and it looked fine in the simulation Window. Slogging through my SCP file created by RA is going to be a tedious task, as there is over 40MB of it :scared:
