I've bought myself a Sony DRU500A i'm happy with it but on 4X princo i can't make it burn that fast...
I have HP dvd200i DVD+R/RW for more than 6 months. Only minus is slow grabbing speed (only 2x with removing macrovision :().
*EDIT* What kind of idiot I´m :D. I didn´t permit DMA to my writer so it uses 100% of CPU all the time!!! So it can grab nearly 4x :).

Writing speed regardless, it genuinely is a very nice drive.
I await LiteOn's competing product with great interest. Doubtless, it will undercut the Sony by a significant margin, and I think many forum members may end up buying it. I anticipate £200 being the approximate starting point, and I fervently believe that this writer is solely responsible for Pioneer's recent price drop on the A05 - they know damn well that as soon as the LiteOn dual-format drive hits the shelves, the A05 will be choking on it's dust!
Arky ;o)

I can't vote for 3 burners at the same time: A04, A05 and DRU500A. Going to sell the A04 real soon though as I only have two PCs.

was this becasue of the many different media options out there (some being very cheap) or just the drive in general? the cheapest media i have brought is datawrite (£1.16) and everything has beeen fine so far:)

I bought some datawrite yellows all my drive does with these is make coasters same results with white label (datawrite & white label dvd-rw also) ive tried all firmware versions from 1.20 to the latest 1.41 no success. Also get same results with bulkpaq, the drive will write cd-r though but will not write my cd-rw discs that my cd writers will.
What is your opinion on this problem ?
Thanks

I would have to say, try a high quality disk (verbatim) or try changing the software you use, I have tried Nero, DVD decrypted, imgtools, I stuck with imgtools (1.00.4) it rules! Just make sure to turn off iso standard. You may consider that you have had a bad flash also if you have not had any successful writes after an upgrade/downgrade.
Just a few thoughts

I have at the moment fw version 1.41 if it is a bad flash how can i downgrade there isnt a downgrade version yet for 1.41 or how could i reinstall the firmware because thinking about it i did have a few successful burns a while back, im using the latest version of nero mostly, tried dvd decrypter but only tried imgtools up until 0.89 i havnt tried the later versions, i though of trying another brand of disc but i have 150 of the above & dont particuly want to spend more money just to make some more coasters. I thought up till now it might be crap firmware but i think it could just be a bad flash any ideas how i could get around this ?

There most probably are ways around bad flashes, it is very easy if you dumped your old firmware to a back up, other than that head over to http://www.firmware.fr.st/ and do a search there. I've never had a bad flash (to my knowledge) so I have never looked in to it sorry.

I have three on one machine. Pioneer A03 (sec ide lun 1 dma), Panasonic LF-D321 (sec ide lun 0), and Sony DRX-500ULX (firewire). Read my thread at
http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=a16c4e85.0305201328.43e3d384%40posting.google.com&prev=/groups%3Fhl%3Den%26group%3Dalt.video.dvd.tech
on getting all three to work on a Win ME machine. The sony works very nicely with verbatim dvd+r and dvd+rw media, once you get around the installation problems. Don't use Record Now DX on the Pioneer or Panny burners. Stick with the software you were previously using, assuming it's Prassi Primo.

The new Sony DRU510A. I bought it today for $647 Australian, it's my first DVD writer and I'm pretty damn excited :D
It writes DVD+RWs at 4X, CDRWs at 16X and reads DVDs at 12X. Aside from those 3 improvements, the specs are the same as the DRU500A.
I spent a few hours reading up here yesterday, and today I backed up a bunch of DVD-9s with no problems. Thanks guys :) I'll keep reading up, and hope to be able to contribute.

A03 and will perhaps go on a A05 as I use now only Riek G04, and would love to burn @X4.
Or perhaps will wait for the A06, but I don't care to have only DVD-R support.
