View Full Version : DVDDecrypter writing problem

Hi,

tonight I used DVDDecrypter 3.1.5.0 to burn a 1 GB iso image of a dvd-video to a Maxell DVD-RW (virgin, never used before, not even erased).

The drive is a LG GMA 4020B.

The image format detected in ifo write mode was CD, but I turned it to DVD (what's the difference?)

The burning process went on smooth and at the expected speed of 1x upto 99%.

At that point the program (never complaining, not even in the logs) stopped there (it didn't hang but didn't accept my abort request) for 4 hours! until I rebooted it (this morning).

The video was burned and visible, but the same problem always shows even with
the bundled software (B'S crap) when writing a data DVD (on the same dvd-rw quickly erased).

My question is: do I have to fully erase a DVD-RW before using it the first time? With all CD-RWs I used it was never necessary. (note: I don't use any kind of packet writing).

Do you believe it is a driver/software/drive issue?

My os is winxp home without any form of ASPI.

Thanks,
Nico

There is a new update for DVD Decrypter which supposedly fixes this problem. Give it a shot.

If burning to a DVD, you should have changed the 'Write Mode' to DVD.
Different commands are used in DVD mode.

It changes between the two automatically when you load the image, but its only done on size! 1GB is the cutoff point for CD. So anything > 1GB switches it to 'DVD' and vice-versa.

As for the new version fixing the problem...that DVDRAM fix was for drives coming up with a 'Failed to set write parameters' error.

I tried 3.1.6.0, but unfortunately there was no change (99% hang).

DvdDecrypter remained responsive, and accepted the request for abort, but went on writing.

After removing the packet writing software the bundled software wrote correctly both data and video dvds, though it always took several minutes to finalize the disk (I assume it's a finalization, am I right? ).

My drive is reported as a DVDRAM; do these drives take longer to close the disc than regular dvd-r?

How much should I wait (in normal conditions) for the finalization?

Thanks,
Nico

Finialisation takes longer the less data you have on the disc.
