View Full Version : Video longer after encoding

I'm trying the DECOMB plugin with a telecined DVD.

It's an anime with 29.97 fps.

I used the decomb.dll and this instruction in my avs script

telecide(guide=1, threshold=20, dthreshold=3, blend=false, chroma=true)
decimate(cycle=5)

I load the script in VDM and obtain a certain number X of frame.
I encode it with 2-pass XviD (last koepi build, I use 3 BF, no divx5 compatibility, Mode Decision 2 and the rest by default) and obtain PERFECTLY the size I wanted, but if I try to play the video ANY player sees it like a movie longer, much longer...

Original movie was 1 hour and half
Encoded movie is OVER 2 HOUR AND A QUARTER!

I forget to say that encoded video is effectively a 23.976 fps video

What's going wrong?

Tnx in advance.

I don't use deinterlacing since I live in a PAL-region, so I cannot tell you if your script is valid or not, but it seems that it works since you get 23,976 fps...
To determine if the fault lies in the encoding or in the deinterlace, you should load your script into VDubMod and look at the video-duration displayed there...
I know that you HAVE to select DivX5-compatibility when encoding with b-frames, because packed bitstream isn't working yet, so maybe this is where the problem comes from?
Thinking again about it, I dont think that anything is wrong with the deinterlacing, because even if the video was just slowed down to 23,976, then you would only have 112 minutes or so, not more than 2 hours...
Did you select packed bitstream or nothing at all?

First of all tnx for your reply.

I tried with and without Divx5 compatibility and the singular thing is that if I try to open the avs script in VDM it seems a 23.976 fps video of the correct length, but once encoded it becomes longer.

This is the first time I have this kind of problem with xvid

At this time I'm quite sure this is a problem of the encoder (xvid) but i'm surprised, 'cause this thing never happen before :scared:

No packet bitstream in my rip. I saw some strange effect using it, so I leave it disabled for now.

Maybe its just some weird playback-problem?
Make sure to upgrade to the latest Xvid-build, and try turning ffdshow off when you have enabled it, I had problems playing movies with b-frames with it too...
Did you check the length of the encoded movie in Virtualdub or just in the player(s)?
