Variety of Audio on 1 DVD

I have concert DVD video vobs ripped using DVDDecrypter. For audio, some have DTS 5.1, some Dolby 5.1, some 2.0, and some PCM. I use a variety of these vobs to make a mixed disk. I use VOBEDIT to join the clips, then I use IFOEDIT to author. If I only use vobs of 1 audio format when I Join Clips to make a mixed disk (ex: only Dolby 5.1 or only Dolby 2.0), everything's fine.

As soon as I used VOBEDIT to Join Clips of vobs with different audio formats though, only 1 of the audio track formats will play (Power DVD or set-top box) -- all of the others have no sound just make various loud static/clicks when played. Are there some VOBEDIT settings I need to use, or a different procedure to use in order to have each vob's own default audio track have sound when played?

The DVD-Standard says you may use just one type of audio-format per VTS.

Me too in exactly same situation. Is there any work-around for this? Really appreciate your help

You have to make for each audio-format an additional vts. (ac3 5.1 and 2.0 may be in the same VTS) But you can't do this in ifoedit. So you have to use an authoring-app like Maestro or Scenarist. But if you have not an autoring-app like that, you could convert all audiotracks into the same format. If the most audiotracks are ac3, convert all non-ac3-tracks to ac3. If you haven't an ac3-encoder, convert all to MPEG1-layer2-audio.

Give Tmpgenc dvd author a try, it's pretty simple to use and will create a new vts set for each title. Just put the vobs that contain the same audio format in the same title track, and then click add new title for the next vts set.

I figured it out. Use vstrip to remove the unwanted audio track (ensure you select/check substreams). THEN use vstrip again to remap the audio type to either 0x80 or 0x81 -- you can only have Dolby 2.0 and 5.0 or 5.1 on the same DVD -- you cannot have PCM and Dolby on the same DVD or you will have to manually switch your set-top player between tracks from Audio 1 to Audio 2 etc.

Think there's a guide in this site, but the short version is:

- on the Input tab, click the Add to open the vob
- go to the Output tab and hit run
- go the input tab and look at where the audio streams are located
- click Substreams, and find the stream you want to eliminate
- uncheck the audio stream you want to eliminate
- click run
- go to Input and select the new file with the eliminated stream
- go to Output and assign another file name
- click substreams
- highlight the stream you want to remap
- under the "Remap to" column, highlight the target stream (where you want to remap to -- usually 0x80 or 0x81)
- hit run
- open the file in Power DVD or similar to check it

This took me several days of trying before I got it. You'll need perseverance, but you'll get it eventually.
