VCD dat file to mpeg

I cannot seem to convert a dat file to mpeg using VCD Gear. When i try to play back the file media player is throwing up errors saying it is unplayable. But when i first tried doing this about a month ago, everything was fine, i've only recently had this problem. Anyone help?

i just rename it to .mpg it works fine on the hard drive with media player, but when put on dvd with dvdit the sound is out of sync

Yeah but the thing is i was making the conversion perfectly about a month ago, now it's not doing it properly. What's happened?

Try VCDEasy. Under 'Tools' section and 'MPEG Tools' tab. At the bottom, you will see "Cdxa2mpeg. Convert a MPEG File ...'. Use it, and see this will help.
