I just downloaded a DivX version of Bowling for Colombine, it consists of 2 files and NONE will playback the audio. I've reinstalled the latest DivX version, and tried both windows media player, and DivX Playa, but none of them plays the sound.

DivX error messege:
The video file you're opening includes audio data that is not recognized by DivX playa.

The file contains the following type of the data:

Audio data: tag 8192

You may need to install a new video codec to playback the data.

But how do I know which codec?
Anyone have a clue?

Okay, I found out that it was actully a Xvid file, but had Divx in the title. I downloaded the latest Xvid codec, but it still ain'nt playing, why's that?

Perhaps it's Ogg Vorbis or possibly ac3 sound. Check the audio faq
for links etc or go directly to the download pages of doom9.

You can actually use a program called avimux to determine which type of audio is present within the avi. Or try the file properties dialog in virtualdub/mod, though I'm not sure that this would give the information if you don't have the audio codec.
