hi
trying to back up X-files series 4 PAL (first 3 managed eventually with help from this forum, cheers folks) but running into MENU problems
rip using DVD Decrypter, using IFOEDIT strip unwanted audio out, FBI warnings in MENU option
transcode using IC
burn using Primo Prassi

number of problems
1-disc sometimes freeze part way through 20th century logo
2-after using IC on disc 3 the menu for actual episode selection doesn't appear for 19 seconds( though it is Ok in IFOEDIT after stripping but before IC)can select the episode as cursor is on screen just no actual menu page
3-disc 4 same as disc3 but also problems navigating between episodes delay of 19 seconds before selecting to return home and the episode selection menu appearing
4-also problem with IFOEDIT, after getting VTS sectors i get the "Illegal navigation encountered message", can overcome it by deleting VTS_5.IFO and VOBS and replacing with original from ripped DVD, doing the IC thing then getting VTS sectors before burning with Prassi(as Prassi will not burn DVD until this step is taken)
could this be the source of my menu problems?

would appreciate any guidance on the above
cheers darrell

ps could anyone confirm whether or not DVD2DVDR can be used to backup episode DVD's as i was under the impression that it was for movie only without MENU's
cheers

as it has happened to me, but on a Paramount (or was it Universal..) logo, check whether the WHOLE logo (from start to finish) is actually there. Mine was cut short by IC7, which messed things up. Everything was back to normal, when I replaced it with the original.
BUT it has happened only once, could be something I did with Ifoedit (I had really butchered that DVD) and that's why I hadn't reported it.

For problems 2, 3, I think Mister X (or MackemX) will be more knoledgeable on the matter, but IMHO, 99,9999% it's some booboo you did with ifoedit.

For problem 4, it's 1000% sure it's something you did with Ifoedit. Prassi or RecordnowMax will refuse to burn a DVD if something is wrong with it's structure. Getting VTS sectors may sometimes fool them into burning, but it's more than sure that you will end up with a coaster, or at best, with a DVD that will not be playable on all players, and then with navigational problems.

Happy Greek Easter!!

cheers for the reply Arianos but
points 2+3
it is not ifoedit that is causing the the initial problem as when i preview in ifoedit before burning the menu appears as it should. it appears to be something that Instant Copy is doing to the structure. if i use DVd2One to transcode then the navigation problems are not there( but the quality is not as good, the DVD's are roughly 6.5G.
point 4
i am almost certain it is not anything that i am doing wrong in ifoedit, as i am only removing the warning from the menu, and stripping out the unwanted audio, stuff that i have done successfully with the first 2 series without any problems

if you have the time, try doing it without removing stuff and see what happens

then you will know if it's IC or Ifoedit :)

i used the same ifoedited input, fbi warnings and unwanted audio stripped out
DVD2One
just ran disc5 through DVd2One and the menu appears as normal when previewed in Ifoedit, so am just burning to see how it behaves in my standalone.
Instant Copy
when run through Instant Copy the menu for selecting the episodes is not there, it has completely disappeared.tried looking for it using Vobrator but still no joy??????????????????

will test burned disc to see if other navigation problems are still there
will also try IC on non-stripped later when i get time but

cheers darrell

burned disc via DVD2One seems OK but would still prefer IC output. so copied the menu VOB and ifo files from Dvd2ONE to Instant copy. plays OK in ifoedit, will try burning disc later.
could i use DVD2DVDR and ifoedit to burn episode discs???

cheers again
