Hi there.

I'm trying to convert an avi-file into svcd using avi2svcd from dvd2svcd 1.1.3 build2. Before actualy encoding the movie I always get an error message saying "read beyond end of file".

Can anyone help me on that?

here's the log.

Probably the first thing is to see this sticky and get the beta update: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51096

Very good first post. Good title, good description and included logfile.

If only you hadn't posted it in 3 forums!:D

Cross-posting is frowned upon. Find the right forum for your topic
(this one in this case) and post only in that one.

Check the sticky's. There is a new Beta build of DVD2SVCD aimed at people struggling with AVI encodes. It might help you.

If that doesn't work all I can think of is a dodgy source file. Does it work in the DVD2SVCD preview window, for example? Does the whole film play from start to finish in Windows Media Player?

My advise would be to make a second copy of the original avi file to mess about with. Try doing an index block rebuild with DivFix (doom9 downloads). It may fix the problem and will at least notify you if the file is corrupt. With good codecs and ffdshow filtering avi files with corrupt frames will play almost flawlessly in media player but require repairing before they can be converted to SVCD.

I've never had this error so I could be talking rubbish (not an unknown phenomenon!) but that's where I would start.

edit: Damn you DDogg! Beat me to it with my first point whilst I was busy typing the second :p

Didn't you say you were running 1.1.3 build 2? The logs shows you are running an older version.

First of all, THX Nick for your reply! I will definitely try all the stuff you wrote, as soon as I get to it.
Secondly, The LOG indeed shows v1.1.2 b1. I already installed v1.1.3 b2 and tried it another four times! It still breaks up @ the same point and produces the same LOG. So, you're right, RB, but still...... :o(

THX for your help so far. Very good first experience in this forum!

And DDogg, I indeed did read the sticky, but since I have had this very problem for the last four builds I tried, I don't expect it to solve the problem!

So long...

What version of CCE are you using?

CCE 2.50

Er, these two contradict each other. I'm trying to convert an avi-file into svcd using avi2svcd from dvd2svcd 1.1.3 build2

The sticky starts:
Title
AVI 2 SVCD fails (at some point). What can I do?
1. Download this beta version of dvd2svcd DVD2SVCD 1.1.3 Build 3 Beta 4 and try it. Please report back here whether you have success or not using this version.

OK, guys.

It still doesn't work. I tried dvd2svcd 1.1.3b3b7 now and still get the same "read beyond end of file" message (see log.)

I am using CCE 2.50 and did check "convert divx3 to div4"

The info GSpot gives me about the film is:
Video Format:
Codec 4CC: div3 Name: DivX 3-Low Motion
Framerate is 23,976 FPS
Audio Codec:
Name: ac3 (0x2000) "Dolby Laboratories, Inc"

All named codecs are installed and DivFix shows no errors. I have tried rebulidng the index with DivFix. It still doesn't work. Also, I have used a newly saved .AVI built with VirtualDub. (I DID use "DirectStreamCopy") WMP8 and Zoomplayer 2.90 do play the file absolutely correctly and the video preview in DVD2SVCD is working fine, too.

So, if you have ANY ideas at all, maybe you can help me on that?!
I'd really appreciate it. So far, I got the impression you guys really do know the hell much about this stuff, so there's probably gotta be something you can tell me, right? :p :p

So, PLS?? Any idea?

This may be just wasting your time but I would suggest two things,

One (my post at bottom): http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=306197#post306197

Two: Before starting the save avi process above, set a new end frame marker a few frames from the end in VDub so you will cut out the last few frames (hopefully credits) and create a new end point. Maybe this will remove some bad information from the end of the file. Also, after this is finished you will have a plain jane wave file as the audio so any potential confusion from that area is removed. The new end point will also be reflected in the audio.

It might be worth a try. If you do try please let us know what the outcome is.

Hey DDog.

THX for your help so far. I just tried doing as you wrote on your post in http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=306197#post306197.
But as soon as I come to saving the avi as a new file i get the virtualdub error message "no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format".

any idea what i'm doin wrong. i have watched the film and it is in sync. had no problems watching it w/ wmp8, zoomplayer 2.90 and Powerdvd4.0

i hope i'm not stressing this too much...

a big thanx to you an the others for all the help so far. maybe sometime we'll get rid of this f#$"§%! problem. :scared:

so long.
