View Full Version : DVD2sVCDV113b2+CCE2.67.09=HOW-TO best quality ?!?

I use DVD2sVCD 1.1.3 b#2 conbined with CCE 2.6.7.009 SP,but so far the results are not what I was expecting, considering the fact that the newest CCE wields better quality and faster encoding time (compared to CCE 2.50 SP).
I tried using "Standard template" and "Standard Matrix",but somehow the encoded movie seemed at least of equal quality to those encoded with CCE 2.50,but I m almost 100^% certain that it wasnt better.
So,I started experimenting and created some custom templates using instructions from the EclCCE website (I think). One for Interlaced Material and one template for Progressive source. The movie was progressive PAL,so I used the Progressive template which gave a really really blurry movie !!! The image was softened too much and the result was simply of bad quality.
Well,i reverted back to Standard CCE Template using "Andreas SVCD Matrix" and the result was almost identical to the "Standard Template-Standard Matrix" encoded movie...
So,in other words,I m confused...What combination of Template/Matrix should I use for the best quality results for 2 CD rips ?!?

PS.Progressive Template-->LowPassFilter=3,QuantizerCharachteristics=7,IntraBlockPrecision=10,Zigzag ScanningOrder,ProgressiveFrameFlag ON and all other unchecked.

PS.Standard Template has Low Pass Filter to MAX (10) and Quantizer set to 16,but gives sharper results ?!? How come ?!? The CCE ReadMe says that the LowPass Filter "cuts off the high frequency information from image".Whats that ?!?
Apart from that Standrard Template has "Alternate Block Scan Order" ON and "Progressive Frame Flag" OFF,yet it gives a sharper image even if the source is progressive ! It doesnt make any sense at all !!! The readme says clearly that for progressive source you should have the opposite checked ! Can anyone comment on that ?!?
Intrlaced Source Template gives me blurry results too (?!?).

Read my sticky post about how to use CCE 2.66/2.67 with DVD2SVCD in this forum and use the templates provided there. Basically, you should turn off any filters in the Quality settings dialog.

Been using the latest versions of both programs and have had exellent image quality. I am using the cce2.62(mpeg standart) matrix tab in dvd2svcd. I notice very little degration of the vidio. In the Encoder tab, I have left the "Use CCE Template" unchecked.
Also use the 3 pass VBR setting.:)

Back on the original subject, I can only really recommend you follow RB's advice. At least for me it works really great, with my TV set I get a better image quality especially when using low bitrate (1200-1800) than before with CCE 2.5. Often the simple way is usually the best way.
Just my 2 cents.

Test with cce template.

I ran some test using cce 2.57 mpeg std, very low, ultra low, and dv svcd.
My source is DV clip, final target is svcd. I'm using Pinnacle DV 500 DVD package (Pinnacle prog, + Adobe prem. 6.5),
setting:
- Pinnacle/Adobe setting: Deinterlace filter, Noise Reduction, Bottom field first, 29.97 frame rate, Anamophic and 16:9
- CCE 2.67.00.09 setting: 3 pass CRB, 29.97 FR, Uncheck top field, checked ZiZ??, and Progressive. Template test as mention above

Result:
best with Std Mpeg
Very low, ultra low is about same with little blur.
DV svcd is worst, high contrast and colors mixed.

I also tried using PluginPac framsever directly to CCE standard alone, but some have it caused the virtual memory running low (not sure CCE 2.67 caused a problem or PluginPac caused it. But I uninstalled both and use 2.66.00.08 right now, and it works flawless so far)

Using the EXACT same settings (at least those setting that apply both to CCE 2.50 SP and 2.67.009 SP) I ALWAYS get better results with CCE 2.67 SP ! Sharper/less blocks/better overall quality...
What troubles me though is the BIAS setting in ENCODER TAB in the latest DVD2sVCD...When I set this to 11,my resulting sVCD is somewhat sharper or this is my mistake ?!?
