ac3 or mp3 - which is best?

I was just wondering which is the better codec, ac3 or mp3, and if it would make sense to transfer my audio-cd's to ac3 instead of mp3?
I usually use mp3 192kb.

well if you want the best, don't transfer your CD at all to another format. :)

mp3 is better than ac3, no doubt about it.

Make sure you use Lame for encoding.

Compress the wav to .flac or .ape if you want lossy then go with aac or mpc.
