View Full Version : Ripping a Flipper Disc - Problems encountered!

I have this little problem I was hoping you people here could help me with.

In my DVD collection I have this old release of SE7EN which I think is a great movie - Problem is that this old release is a "flipper" and I hate to do that disc-flip in the middle of the movie....

So I decided to RIP the movie, make it a non-flip, and then place it on a DVD+R

SIDE A holds all the normal files of a DVD, and the mail movie is contained in a VTS_01_x.vob set, where X is 1,2,3 and 4.

Side B hold all the same files, whith the same filenames VTS_01_x.vob (1-4) but ofcourse with different filesizes.

With IFO-Edit i checked the VST_01_0.IFO file and could see that the the PGC1 of Side A was 1h 01min, and the PGC1 of Side B was 1h 05min.

Since I was not aiming for a complete rip with menues and everything, I decided to take the EASY way.

I Decrypted all the files of both sides to two different directories, then i renamed the VOB-files of side 'B' to be sequential followers to the files from side 'A', in other words i renamed the VTS_01_1.VOB of side 'B' tol VTS_01_5.VOB and so on... Then I copied all files into one directory (just VOB-files - no Video_ts files, ifo-files etc.)

So then I had a directory containing VTS_01_x.VOB (1-8) and I used IFOEDIT to create NEW IFO's from this set. It all seemed to work fine (The new IFO contained a PGC of 2h 6min, audio etc), until i started to play my DISC-IMAGE with PowerDVD..... The playback was reversed. The movie started to play back side 'B', and then after the end-credits the first half of the movie started to play... DRATS!

A quick look in the original IFO-files from the DVD revealed what I think to be the problem:

SIDE 'A' uses VOB-ID 2, while SIDE 'B' uses VOB-ID 1...... Obviously IFOEDIT uses the VOB-ID to create new IFO's, and therefore the playback starts with side B, and ends with side A.

So the way I see it, a solution could be to somehow change the SIDE 'B' vobfiles, into using VOB-ID 3 instead before creating IFO's with IFO-Edit, but if this will work i dont now..... I don't know of any utilities to do this either....
Another solution may be to edit the new IFO's afterwards so that the playback starts from the right place, but I think that will be more complicated....

Anyone here who could help me out, on how to make a WORKING copy of this movie (just movie) - or ofcourse with menus if it's not much extra work..... Either my way, or some other maybe easier way... (I don't think there are any one-click programs that supports flippers (they only support DVD-9's)

I know a solution could be done by DEMUXING everything from the original VOB-files (Both sides seperatly into seperate folders), and putting it all back together with scenarist, but I feel that it's just too much work - there has to be an easier way.

BTW: Making a direct COPY of each side on seperate DVD+R's are out of the question..... Changing DVD's are just as akward as flipping disc.

Thanks in advance!

Don't know why you posted this in the General Discussion forum but you would've had alot of responses in the IfoEdit forum. Anyway, if you had done a search on flippers, you would have found this old and working guide (http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/joinclip.html#joindbl) sooner or later.

Ofcourse I should've posted this in IFOEdit forum..... I don't know what I was actually thinking as I posted this....Could I blame it on tamporarily insanity ?? :-)

Anyways thanks for the flipper-guide.... and yes: Iknow I should've searched for it before posting....

So then I only have to get hold of VobEdit, which should't be that hard, and my flipper-project is back on track.
