What is the most common reason for this problem of StandAlone Incompatability?
I have created over 30 dvd's and a little over half of them will work on a Phillips machine I have(they all work on my Sony and Toshiba). The disc just spins and eventually ejects.
I capture video through a mpeg2 capture card, master with maestro and burn with nero5.5.10.20.(I also just tried recordNow max 4.5 with same results) The dvd's vary in bitrate(all are cbr), but all are captured with same audio settings. I also tried ImgTool 1.x to burn with no luck. I use two differnt media, with both incompatable in some cases. I burn the incompatable dvd's on different media more than once to test, but the same video's are incompatable each time.
Please Help I'm going crazy!
Thank You

Are you using Princo media?
Have you tried using Ritek media instead?

Well most DVD Players sold today don't have any problem reading DVD-Rs. But older Players can't read DVD-R and most cheap brand names can't read DVD-Rs.in this case it's your Phillips DVD Player or if you used different brand name media on the other half of your DVDs. Some real cheap DVD-Rs have more problems with StandAlone Incompatability than brand name DVD-Rs. You can probally find a better awnswer if you search usin the search box.

Im using no name bulk media now, but used a brand called PrimeMedia 1x, and Maxel 2x with same problems. I tried the three brands on one video and none worked on the philips dvd player. Also the bulk media I use now works great on all other machines Ive tested, and about 60% of the time on the Philips( Philips dvd711).
I have searched through the posts, and it seems most problems are blamed on either bad burn or bad media. I was hoping for info on something I overlooked.
Thanks for the advice.
BTW: I did some research on this player and found that some have had problems with disk's that are under 4gig. This is not my problem because some of my disk's that wont play are over 4gig.

Even the latest version of Nero burns crap which doesn't play on my parents player (last title is not found....i.e. if I make 6 titles, such as episodes of a series, the first 5 work)
ImgTool Classic produces a working image, as well as DVD Maestro. I burn with DVD Decryptor then

Two things, first alexnoe is correct, use ImgTools to create a disc image then burn with dvdecrypter. All of my stand-alones are Philips and this is how I made them work. Also, Philips is a backer of DVD+R, and I am assuming you are using DVD-R. But if you have gotten some to work, your player obviously will read DVD-R. Just download ImgTools Classic or ImgTools 0.89 and create a dvd image file and burn that file using dvddecrypter ISO-Write. Hope this helps.

My gut reaction remains that you should buy decent media with a decent index of reflectivity and decent dye. I use Nero with Ritek and have no problems whatsoever. By all means use Image Tool & Decryptor but this still won't work on it's own - use it with decent media!

Ok, I tried ImgTools classic but burned the .iso with nero. Ill try to burn with dvdrypter next. Also in the intrest of trying to fill up the dvd-r, where can I add junk files, and what kind of files can I add. I suspect that I cannot add anything into the video_ts or audio_ts files, can I just drop any .xxx file to the root of the dvd?
Also, sorry I didnt use maxell I used Memorex 2x. Is that considered good media?
@Taz: Do you have a Philips dvd711? Do you run into any Philips machines that can read dvd-r's with a minimum of 4gig or so?
Thank You all for the help:D

Memorex could be 2 different kind of media:

The memorex I used is: TAIYOYUDEN.
The bundled stuff is: TDKG02000000
I imaged with ImgTools classic and burned with dvdrypter, no luck.
Funny thing happened: I got tired of wasteing dvd's so burned on a pioneer dvd-rw and the Philips dvd711 read it fine. (burned with nero no image)So, maybe it is media problem, who knows.
Thanks Again:D

Well I got some Memorex (Yellow and Blue jewel case inserts) bundled with my old A04, and they were 'ok', but not great - I still had some issues playing them back in a PS2. Definitely better than Princo, but not as good as Ritek G03s or G04s.
Having said that, Taiyo Yuden are top quality, and TDK (if they are genuine) are also good stuff.

I have several customers who swear the Philips dvd711 plays prodisc technologies g02 discs fine (even when burned at 2x speed). Aparently they hate princo 2x, and even primedisc when burnt at 2x discs don't work so well.
I would suggest either making sure your discs are beign authored properly, and also try burning at 1x speed.

Yes gooki!
I think you may be correct aboout the 1x speed. I got 1 video to work by buning at 1x. I used ImgTools classic to image and dvdrypter to burn, as I had before, but burned at 1x instead of 2x. Now I must repeat with others that dont work at 2x to test.
Anybody know why the dvd player would act this way, able to read some discs(all authored and burnt the same), but not others.
Thanks All I feel like Im getting somewhere now:D
