I know theres a lot of threads about adding subtitles to movies but I really could'nt find help with this matter...I'll make it simple: How to .sub + .avi = movie with permanent subtitles? Please! Help a newbie out... :( Any tutorials? :eek:

What encoding method are you using? Either way, check VobSub. You do know you have to do this before encoding a movie? You can't to it with an already complete movie without reencoding it (highly unrecommended).

You need Virtual Dub and filter named Subtitler (it is old), better is VobSub's Textsub filter. - Get whole VobSub package and read instructions.

You can use this filters in AVISynth too....

Be aware that if your source AVI is already compressed, then by adding permanent (or burn-in) subtitles you'll have to re-compress it again, meaning you'll lose quality.

You could try using a different container format, such as OGM, which supports subtitle overlays. However, you'll have to install additional software to play them back.
