Can anyone provide me with a link to purchase the DVD-R 4.7GB Riteks listed here http://www.meritline.com/rithigqualgo.html at a better price than $1.10 per disk if I buy a 100 quantity spindle. I just installed my Sony DRU-500AX and need to order some disks today.

If you've only just got your drive I wouldn't jump straight into a purchase of 100 discs - especially Riteks! You should buy a few different brands - some cheap ones like the ones you mention and a couple of quality discs too so you can find out what disc suits you needs best.

If you're using the discs for anyhting other than data for reading back on the PC eg. movies for a standalone or consoles I'd seriously re-consider before wasting that amount of cash.

I wasted about Ģ50 before I reaslised that cheap discs = rubbish discs.

I've had really good luck with Ritek disks. They're not nearly as cheap as princo and some of these others you can get for $79 cents :)

I don't know of any places selling them for less than a buck right now. prices went up recently.

I'd recommend getting a 10 pack from Rima.com

Make sure they work in your burner and set top player.

I started with Princo. Got lucky with the first batch, then got screwed with the second batch. Typical stuttering after burning half way throuhg.

Switched to Ritek 4x for my A05 and great luck so far. Also seems many folks have good luck with Ritek. I would not put them in the same class as Princo.

So Ritek 4x are Pioneer certified.......?

Which other discs can the A05 burner use?

And.....do the 4x disc play back ok on DVD players?

HAs anyone done a Kpprobe on a 4x burn to see its quality?

The Ritek 4x are certified to burn on the A05.

I am sure there are official lists of the media certified for the A05, I don't have it. And it probably doesn't matter anymore since I flashed the drive to remove the 2x decrypter limit.

What is Kpprobe? I would be happy to check the 4x discs I have burned.

There has been no problem with them in STB except for the ones I screwed up.

Let's be a little more clear about this:

Ritek G4's are certified to operate at 4x

Ritek G3's are semi-certified to operate at 2x. Depending on the make of burner (and firmware), you can burn them at 2x.

I've had good sucess with the G3's burning at 2x and reading them in all my standalones. I'm burning them with a Pioneer A03 with the 2x4all firmware hack. No complaints.

Would the Sony burner also do 4x with Ritek G4 and 2 x with G3?

I can only speak for myself but I have never been concerned with burning speed, I want to get the bes quality I can but still keeping budget in mind for the media.

Mosaic,

I've done a few Ritek G04's in my Sony at 4x with no probs. A couple would only work at 2x though  I used Nero to burn them. The G03's all worked at 2x in the sony.

My first 100 DVD-R Ritek 4X burned at 4X in sonydru500ax with firmware 1.0d only. 16mins to burn.

Second batch 100 DVD-R Ritek 4X also from rima.com only burn at 2X about 30mins to burn.

Batch of 100 Ritek DVD+R 2.4X burn at 2.4X (surprise!) since they don't take a 90 secs to open and 90 seconds to close session each time they burn in 23mins. firmware 2.0f

Guess what my next 100 pack will be for? That's right DVD+R 2.4X. I paid $175 for 4X that only burns at 2X and had I known that I would have just paid $110 and save $65.

Are you getting them all from Rima? If not who then?

Are you sure the are Ritek G04? Did you use ADVDINFO to read the internal label?

I have had good luck on the G04 burning at 4x with a A05. I had real bad luck with Princo crappo. I learned the hard way that they fake the internal label and call them TDK. I have not heard of Ritek being involved with fake labels.

yes all 3 100 packs were from rima.com and yes I checked with dvddecrypter and it said Ritek G04

anyway I lied ...it's not 23mins but more like 22mins for DVD+4 at 2.4X.

22mins for Ritek 2.4X DVD+R versus 16mins (hit and miss when they work) for Ritek 4X.

Now 22mins - 16 mins is only 6mins difference.

Definitely DVD+R is the way to go until Ritek G04 and sonydru500a and sonydru500ax actually burn 4X all the time. Now it's just a very expensive gamble.

When was Rima doing 100 packs of DVD+R media for $110?

mrbass
28th April 2003, 02:05
it's that $110 now the current price for Ritek 2X G03. I think a couple of months ago they were down to $80.

I paid $170 then $175 for packs of 100 Ritek G-4 4X DVD-R

and paid $150 for Ritek 2.4X DVD+R

oh you mean DVD+R well maybe that is the current price but not for 2.4X I don't think..it's $150.

Hi everyone,

I am thinking af ordering Ritek G03 from Rima.com since most people here seem to be in favour of that brand.

However somebody on http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=58 posted, that Ritek may have altered their process and that they donīt burn well on Pioneer 104 anymore!!!
Can anyone here comment on that? Or is there any evidence for other manufacturers (like Princo...) producing fake Riteks?!?!

@atreides: When was your last purchase at Rima, and how was that quality?

Thanks for some help

I got a 50 pack of the Ritek G04 from these folks for $85.

http://www.dvdroutlet.com/cgi-local/shop.pl/SID=1051566215.10/page=dvdmr.htm

Not a single dud yet burning on the A05 and 4x - no problem.

I don't remember the exact date, but its probably been a month since I bought two 25packs of RitekG03's from Rima.com I'm still on the first 25 pack so I won't need to order any more for a while.

I'm on my last 15 ritek DVD-R discs (from a 500 disc order). But I refuse to pay over $1.00USD for them.

So you know what thats gonna do for the price. Cheapest Ive seen is 1.19 a piece if you order 100 or more. If anyone hears about some being available let us know please I am running out as well!!!

Just ordered Ritek G03 100 fom rima.com 2 weeks ago (receivd 4/07/03).
Silver/dark pink just like the ones I used before.

However, it refuses to be burn on 2x on my pio a04 with firmware 1.40.
It burns ok on 1x. The previous batch G03 burnt on 2x with same a04
without any problem. (although the previous batch G03 does not like
a04 firmware 1.31)

The latest batch burned G03 works well on all my PCs and DVD players.
Burnt 15 so far with 1x and no corpse.
