video conversions

ok heres the thing i wanna convert some .mpg's to .avi's or something along them lines, i need to reduce the file size...

(yeah im not exactly what forum this should be under so i put it here...)

the destination format depends on how small the final file shall be.

please post desired filesize and videolenght(resolution, too) so I can tell you some values/tips to start with.

ok sorry i didnt get to it yesterday... i tryed to follow those links and tryed to reread them... they didnt make much sence but there was no real mention of how to convert a normal .mpg to a .avi

would anyone be willing to help me via a IM program?
