View Full Version : After multiplexing sound, DivX Player no longer plays my AVI

Before multiplexing in sound, DivX Player plays back my video just fine.
After multiplexing the sound (MP3, AVR-160 encoded with HEadAC3he - but also with multiplexing in the original AC3, too) with Virtualdub (as described in the Doom9 guides), DivX Player is unable to open the .avi ("THIS FILE CANNOT BE OPENED. StreamSourceFilter::seekFromBeginning(0) out of readLimit range: -1"). However, the Mediaplayer still plays it perfectly - with sound!
Any ideas?

hi and welcome to the forum (:
you might want to try avimuxgui (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/AVI-Mux_GUI-1.13-ENG.exe) it gives me better, less problematic results...
also did you use virtualdub or virtualdubmod?

Vdub does not support variable bitrate mp3; muxing should be done with another tool. Doom9s guides show Nandub, you can also use VdubMod, etc.
You might also try a different AVI player; the DivX Player does not have the best reputation within the community here. From Microsoft, the general consensus is that their best player appears to be Windows Media Player 6.4 (ye olde mplayer2.exe included with every version of windows), plus, many members here prefer Zoomplayer, BSPlayer, and others available from the Downloads page.

First off, thanks for you replies!
1. I used VirtualdubMod.
2. I had the very same problem using Nandub. Still, in both cases, Mediaplayer (yes, I do use 6.x, too - wonder why... ;-) )played them back fine while DivXPlayer wouldn't - so my guess is that this is related to the Player rather than to anything else. Yet, the DivxPlayer was flawless with all other files I encoded, so far. Anyway, it might be more appropriate for me to post about this on divx.com's board.
3. Thanks for pointing me to AVIMux, I'll give this a try.
