avi to dvd

Ok...I get how to make a dvd now....
But now there is one last question. How can I burn a Avi file to a dvd and make it viewable on standalone players?
I can't put it on a vcd...the files too big. It has to be on a dvd.
I've looked on the forums and faqs..but all I can find is info on transfering dvd to avi..not the other way around. Is this possible?
