Hey all. I am curious about the .IMG format itself. I have read some conflicting data. Is it true that it is exactly the same as the .ISO format, just renamed?

If anyone would have a URL to like a RFC or technical paper on the .IMG format, I'd appreciate it. I did a quick google, and I wasn't able to find anything useful. If there are dual formats both going by the .IMG name, I'm interested in the one used by such programs as DVDDecrypter, ImgTools, and RecordNow.

Since there are a number of people here who have written programs that read/write the .img format, I figured this would be the place to ask. =)

For ImgTools there is nothing behind the extension "img". You can just rename it to iso or whatever you want. There is no RFC behind this extension. Look at Winword. Do you have ever seen a RFC for the doc extension? Sometimes this extension is used for text files, sometimes for word documents...

I think it doen't make sense to muse some more about any standard behind IMG/ISO...

So .img is identical to .iso? Ok, that's all I needed to know. =)

I ran some tests and I was getting different file sizes between .iso's and .img's so I was not sure. I will run them again.
