View Full Version : Editing Vobsub's bitmap output

I'm looking for a way to modify the bitmaps from the .sub file that Vobsub generates. The closest I could get is to have SubReSync convert the .sub/.idx pair into .sst/.bmp, but then I can't reverse the conversion. If possible, I want to avoid converting into text based subtitle formats, since I don't want to run OCR.

Thanks.

I think the "easiest" way would be to edit the resulting Scenarist subs, author new DVD and rip it again using VobSub. I remember someone from this forum doing it that way.

It is quite lengthy, but the only possibility if you want it exactly as you wrote it.

Another possibility is to save VobSub subs to ASS without OCRing (Polygonized ASS) and edit the few subtitles. The backside is horribly long parsing time; so it is usable only for burnt-in subs.

PS: Nice avatar, KOR rules ^_^

For I've found several programs that will output into .sst, but none that will take it as input.

Is there an easier way to edit the polygonized .ass files? It's quite difficult to translate the drawing instructions into letter shapes in my head, after all :-)

try subresync from VobSub package. It can do a bit of editing - SSA is nicer, but SubResync has "Render" checkbox ^_^ (double click a subtitle line to edit it)

Well, the below drawing instructions draws "Sure":

I certainly can't make out the letters from them, let alone change them. :-(

*Sigh* I wanted to do this because a few subtitles got mis-placed once I shrink them. I thought it'd be easier if I can just modify the bitmaps of the offending few subtitles. Converting the ripped subtitles to polygonized .ass files kinda helps, once I figured out that text subs can mix with bitmap subs (so I can just replace the offending bitmaps with typed text). This, unfortunately, has it own problems: the font would mismatch (minor, since there aren't many), and I can't convert the .ass back to .idx/.sub pairs! Consequently, I can't shrink / shift their placement at all!

In the end, I went ahead and ran OCR. But now I'll have to go through them and spot for spelling errors... :scared:

Well, thanks to all the suggestions and helps anyway.

Ad font: Yeah, the font will differ :(

But as for shrinking/shifting subs in ASS: you can position and shrink subs in ASS in 3D, so normal shrinking/shifting should be no problem at all ^_^

On the other hand - last time I converted subs from VobSub to SSA using SubResync (OCR), I had no, and I mean NO spelling errors (except one typo I made).
