I finally burned my first movie onto a DVD-RW. I put it on my brand new standalone dvd player that says right on the front that is plays DVD-R's and DVD-RW's...when I put the disc in, it says it cannot play this disc...what the heck. What's happening? The DVD plays fine on my dvd burner on the computer.
This is the DVD player I bought.

Oh and I used the hewlet packard brand dvd-rw that came with my drive. And I used DVD Shrink to rip.

Another interesting thing...I have a CD-R with a movie on it that's in avi format...plays fine on my computer...but for some reason my dvd stand alone player won't play it because it says it has no audio tracks :/

As REECYCUP stated, about 99.9 % of standalones won't play avi files, ever.
As for your DVDs, did you author them properly? What software did you use for burning? Older Nero versions are notorious for producing incompatible discs ...
