Hi there, I have a friend who's thinking about getting a digital camera for home movies, something that is firewire. She's a noob and knows nothing about AVIsynth or CCE, so a good software package would definitely be a plus. What's a good camera for $700?
I would have made a recommendation myself, but I only have experience in DVD ripping, never done any DV work.
I'd really appreciate any recommendations you can give, thanks guys :)

Anyone, please?
Hmm, I don't have a real recommendation for you, but I'm pleased with my Canon MV3 (was much more expensive, though). I'd watch out for progressive scan capability, but I'm afraid you won't find one at such a low price.
Make up your mind and list what you need, and what you would consider a nice-to-have, e.g.
- photo shot
- megapixel resolution
- small size
- low light capabilities
- multimedia card (for photos / short film sequences (MPEG-4?))
- cutting functions (digital gimmicks)
- sound capabilities (48kHz? External microphone?)
- storage medium (MiniDV? Digital8?)
- steady shot function
- optical zoom (forget about digital zoom)
- 16:9 capability
- ...
