According to the datasheet. Digital cameras from Sony is using the format "MPEG VX" when used in filming mode. What kind of format is this? Playable in vanilla Windows operating systems?

Hi,
I guess it is playable (they want to keep handling as simple as possible). I have a DSC-S75 which has an MPEG EX mode. It records MPEG1 Video directly to the Memory Stick so your recording time is only limited by the space on your Memory Stick (64MB -> 20min Film @320x240 15fps + audio). In MPEG HQ where it uses a higher bitrate and writes to the faster buffer memory first I have a max recording time of 15sec -> ~5MB files.
I saw in a review, that MPEG VX records with up to 640x480 16fps + audio. In combination with the new faster Memory Stick Pro and a better MPEG encoder it could work out.
Hope this helped
