Plugged the ide cable in the wrong way during a drunken installation :( (dumbass)
Now one of the pins has snapped off & none of the computer shops in my area (uk) will touch it.
What options do I have guys? It's about 7 months old

long time no see vibez!
If I was you I'd try and attach a new pin myself using a bit of solder, just be carefull putting the ide cable back on cause it's be brittle.
In the absoloute last resort, and I do mean LAST. open the drive and see what you can do. But until that time comes try attaching the pin again.

That, or you could try your favourite shop again with a different approach. Around here most of the guys working there are not too shy to do a little extra work on the side, during the evening, as a hobby, for some spare change...

hello stranger :)
Yeah I thought about the solder route. But I really want to try & sell this drive on, being as i've just got a 105 & I dont think having solder on the pins would reflect good on me ;)
But if push comes to shove then I might just have to try & solder it.
Jazz: it is one of those types of shop. Not sure why they wouldnt touch it. They just told me it was too much hassle for them & my best bet was to send it back to pioneer. I have another few 'friends' I can try out, but i'm just worried that they might make it worse

actually if its still under the year gaurenntee then send it back, say it broke and it wasn't your fault etc..
They will have to believe you and wither fix / REPLACE!! your drive!

think I might try that baker. Do I send it back to the shop(online) that I got it, or back to pioneer?
How would i find the address of where to send it back to pioneer?

online shops can be an awful hassle and so can anything thats not like physical.
See if pioneer have a representitive near by. Like a pioneer shop or something.
Sending stuff back can become very tedious and costly.

 for God's sake DONT put a soldering iron any where near your drive!! the heat from a soldering iron is very likely to fry the circuits in it - soldering microchips is a very skilled job.
It is pretty easy to dismantle a CD drive (I used to sell car audio and frequently had to dismantle head units when they went wrong)
it basicly the same as dismantling a PC - don't stick ur fingers on the microchips etc (static) and remember where the bits go.
remove the broken pin set (IDE bit wasn't it?) and replace with one from something like an old CD drive or an old hard drive (it's a standard part) U can also order both the IDE pin set and the jumper pin set from a good electrical component specialist (do a web search)
Hope this helps
(the warranty idea is a good one but dishonest!)
