View Full Version : Very low power from my LNB. What to do?

I bought and installed om my PC a Vision Plus 1030.
Then I called a dish installer that installed everything at my home.

I use my board to watcht TV and capture, but I noted that I ALWAYS have a very low signal from LNB (About 30% constant). This IS a problem since I have lots of errors while I'm capturing (in 2 hrs I have at least 15 errors, that means 15 GOPs Cutted by PVASTRUMENTO, else audio desynch).

I tried to check everything, but the dish is allineated and the LNB works correctly. I tried to plug a standalone decoder to this cable but it shows me a very good signal (above 80%).

what shall I do? Does my LNB need a power adapter or power amplifier?

PS I don't know anything about satellite systems.

Hello

Try using a bigger satellite antenna, be careful though,
too much signal can damage your LNB.

As an example, I watch satellite TV in my country and due
to the weakness of the signal the minimum size of the reflector
is 6 feet diameter.

OK. But I don't think I will change my dish quite soon.

Some (bad) news:

1- I read in other forums (for DVB & Co) that unfortunately, Twin Han sat boards have some bugs in drivers and in hardware itself, so any signal is very low for this board.

2- I heard someone that has good signal with this board just using a 180 cm diameter dish (... is it big enough for you?)

3- Someone else installed an in-line amplifier, signal is now boosted, but errors are boosted, too, so I don't know if this will be a solution. Someone works good, someonelse don't.

4- It's better for you if you buy a Skystar 2 or 3, since I understood that works better and both software and hardware are better.

I hope to be helpful for someone ;)

Bye

Mhm, might be. I dunno

180cm is VERY big, heh..

Seems logical

Err, this is what I was supposed to comment. Skystar2 and Skystar3 is cheaper cards then skystar1. I have a Hauppauge Nexus-s (skystar1) and I am VERY satisfied, and I think it's one of the most widely used cards. If you're deciding to buy yourself a new one, buy a hauppauge nexus-s! :)

Skystar2's hardware shouldn't be any better at all, in fact, running a skystar2 is harder because it's without mpeg2 "decoder" part or what I shall call it..
Skystar3 is about the same.
I hope to be helpful for someone ;)

@symonjfox

I just bought a Samsung DCR 9500 VIA CI receiver and connected to my LNB (this is for family viewing :)). Guess what ? The signal quality received is similar level to my VP-1030 clone !

So, I almost to conclude that probably nothing is wrong with VP-1030 (I have seen the long thread at dvbnetwork forum about this said otherwise).

Yes, it is true that PVAStrumento finds a lot of missing frame or audio or non-standard GOP in the captured file. But it probably make sense if we consider the low quality signal received (mine is 28% - 35% @ hotbird, outer coverage).

Out of topic, can you use MyTheatre 2.71 version with VP-1030 ? Mine the picture is blocky and missing a lot of macroblocks on the display. The work around is to copy DVBcore.dll from 2.55 version (the only old version I could find) and its graph file (*.GRF) to 2.71. But I do not know what features I missed by doing this. But it works fine.

The funny thing is that using original 2.71 setup, the signal quality reading is boosted twice ! don't know which one you can believe. The only problem is the picture. I suspect the DVBCore has bug during providing the mpeg strean to video decoder. I have been trying to edit and combined DS graph file but no luck. Hope symbiose could fix this asap.

PS: If you have DVB core 2.65.5, please pm me

@ Praz.
I didn't know. Reading on the forums, I thought that 2 or 3 might be more recent so better. Ok, thanks for the info ... :)

Yes, but I have a standalone decoder and using the same LNB I get 4 on 5 signal and quality, why using VP 1030 I get only 20 - 35%. It's a board fail.

Yes, but I bought a DVB card for recording stuff giving HIGHER quality than my old ATI TV WONDER. Instead I get better quality, but a lot of frames missed.

I don't know. I tried it, but this program doesn't display anything on my display, I tried every filter in it and everyone gives me error. I will try your method.
BTW I'm not interessed in watching what they broadcast, I'm more interested in RECORDING.

I got it :D Shall I email it to you?

EDIT:

I tried lastest MyTheatre 2.71 with my VP 1030 ... it works VERY FINE!! Great!

PS: how do you check the signal level and quality? I searched every kind of menu and setting but didn't find

If you click the status bar on lower side of the skin (the one that show your card type and channel status) you will toggle it between visible and invisible.

If you so kind to e-mail me the DVBCore.dll ver. 2.65.5, I will pm you the detail. Thanks a lot.

There might be an bug for Twin Han using MyTheatre 2.71. It always shows me 0% but Satellite PLAYBACK is perfect, and CPU occupation is about 35-40% (while before was 45 - 60).

[EDIT]
I have no PM ... I can't see your PM icon. Retry, pls :)
