What is "Layer Break"? thanks

I use programs such as DVD2one and Pinnacle IC7. Now in the latest version of IC7, the latest update they say that "the layer break on copied DVD's is removed."

So what I wanted to know was:

1.What is layer break?
2.Why was it good to have removed it?

Many movies are stored on double layer DVDs (to improve quality as double layer discs have almost twice the capacity of single layer dvds, that's logic enough I guess)

So when you watch the movie, there will be a small pause when the DVD player switches from the first layer to the second, that's the layer break.

As DVD-Rs have only 1 layer, there won't be any layer break, as there isn't a second layer in the first place!
