Where in Europe can I buy a DVB-C card (like WinTV-DVB-C), I live in Sweden. Also, does the WinTV-DVB cards have SVHS in..so I can get pure digital captures:confused:

I've searched around on google, but couldn't find any store in Europe.
..Thanks in advance. :)

www.avitos.de for example. they also deliver to sweden. no exactly cheap (249€) but, well.
dvb-cards have usually no video in, as they are no real "capture" cards. you can save the digital stream through your pci bus to your hd.
and make sure your provider has digital channels in your cable net, its not very common very i live. :(

Thanks for you reply, i manage to find a swedish store with the same price..I do have digital cable, it's common up here :)

What do you mean about the pci bus -> hd?.. Don't I just plug the svhs cable in to the card, s-video in(which goes from the scart adapter)?

well, there is no s-video in on such cards, only a tv-out, sometimes only composite sometimes also s-video. you just plug in the antenna cable (<- is that the right word ? i mean the cable what you plug in your tv, too) in the card, nothing more.
then you can use the software of the card or any other that supports dvb cards to save the digital stream to your hd.

I think you are wrong, it says on the website(but in swedish):
* Videoinputs: 1st S-Video + Composite (RCA)
* Videooutputs: 1st Composite

^ Hauppauge WinTV DVB-c

Composite is the regular tv antenna cable

that cannot be true, it would need an extra chip for digitizing the analog comp or s-video signal.
i looked at the hauppauge web site and it lists following:

Anschlüsse:
TV-Eingang, 75 Ohm
Composite Video Out + Audio Line Out (Rechts/Links)
Audio Line Out

so only composite tv-out, audio line out and an antenna cable input.
it has also an antenna out for your tv.
have you a link of this shop ? i can try to read some swedish :)

sure it only has 1 composite TV-OUT, but im talking about Video-In (SVHS)..

i know what you mean and i read it at the shops site but i dont think its true unless this card is completely different from the dvb-c sold in germany (and the package looks the same).

hauppauge should really know what they build :), unfortunatly the dvb-c is only listed on the german homepage of hauppauge

as far as i know you cannot get a digital signal via s-video in the card (from where will you get such a signal). and the s-video as analog input would make no sense. (and you would need a capture + mpeg encoding chip on the card for such a thing)

i just cannot believe it :confused:

I would get the digital signal from my Digital Box, I connect a scart adapter to the digital box -> S-Video cable -> S-Video in on the DVB-C card.. that's how I've done so far with my WinTV card.

But it's weird that they haven't listed it on their german website, I guess it's a different card.. Because if i use the composite cable, I wouldn't get a digital signal. I have to plug the composite cable to the digital box, then from the digital box to the card. Maybe it's different in Germany?

that way you would get an analog signal. the scart connector on your digital box is for tv-output you wont get a digital signal from there.
you go directly with the antenna cable (the cable you put also in your digital box) in the dvb-c card. it has its own tuner.

the shop lists pure bullshit, look at the hauppauge dvb-s card on the same page. it says also s-video + composite input and that is definitly not true. (i have the same card, and you can even see on the picture thats its not true)

I found an other store in sweden (the biggest online computer store here)

http://www.dustin.se/default.asp?ORIGIN=Shopping/ProductDetail.asp?PID=5010045396

.. which also points out that the DVB-C has a S-Video input, if I use the composite, i wouldn't get a clear picture the capture would be noisy (atleast that's how it was win a wintv)

what you see on the right side of the dvb-s is a multi function connector wich OUTPUTS composite video, stereo sound, and digital sound. you can see the cable for that connector below, 1xcinch for composite, 2xcinch+1xwhatever that small plug is called for audio, 1xcinch for digital audio.

on the left side is the plug in for the satelite lnb. thats where your signal came from. believe me i have exactly the same card.

same would be true for the dvb-c but instead of a lnb connector it will have 2 antenna connectors, one input, one output for your tv (or a digital box in your case) so you wont need another cable for it. (i think instead of the multi connector it has only a composite out)

to make things maybe more clear:
if you want to capture the analog signal (composite or s-video) from your digital box you cant use a dvb-c card, you have to use your old analog wintv card.

if you want to "save" the digital stream directly you need a dvb-c card and you need to connect it with the same cable your digital box is connected, no composite, no s-video.

we will surely solve the mystery if you buy this card ;)

edit----
look at the text below the specifications, it dont say anything about s-video in:

Anslutningar

TV-ingång, 75 Ohm <- THATS WHERE YOU GET YOUR SIGNAL
Composit video-ut + Audio ut (stereo)
Audio-ut
För att kunna koppla in ditt digital-tv kort krävs en kortläsare (tillbehör).
Kompatibel med Win98/ME/2000/XP

I trust, i just wanna clear this up :)

^ the black cable over the 'white' one..isn't it a S-Video cable?

and it Does say s-videon in:

Videoingångar: 1st -->S-Video<--, 1st Composite (RCA)
Videoingångar = Video Input

thats the digital sound out cinch cable, i have loocked at it with opera at 1000% zoom. :D just like on mine card.

i agree with you that it says s-video on these web sites.
but why only in the specification table and not below ?
and why is the TV-ingång, 75 Ohm not listed in the specification but in the text below ? its NOT the same as the composite rca.

There's something weird about this indeed, I'll ask around on Irc to see if someone got the same card (dvb-c) from Sweden.
