I am using an older version of GK and love it. I want to install and use the latest 0.28 alpha 14. In reading posts I see that I need some special *.Dll files, vdubMOD and maybe a few other things I missed in reding through the posts here. I just want to make sure I install and use correctly particularly in hopes that is solves a problem I have with the sound MUXing that gives me video quality playback issues(I think this is a vdub problem not a GK problem).
I assume everything I need is over at sourceforge somewhere. Can someone point me in the direction of an install guide or a post with this information, I am sure there is one, its just I am not finding it with a search, sorry. Maybe the rippack 0.27 does this I am just not sure based on what I read in some of the posts.
Appreciate the help and the tremendous effort to develop GK!!!!!
Thanks

You must delete everything that is in the GordianKnot folder you have at the moment. And all the links that have been created in the Start>Programs>Gordian Knot.
After you just have to install the System Pack and then the Codec Pack (you can find them HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=295436)). If you have an older version of DivX codec uninstall it first.
That’s all.

I forgot to tell you that if you want the DivX Pro then you don’t install it from the codec pack, but you download it from www.divx.com.

Thanks for the info.. Sorry I put this post here It belonged in the GK forum not the GK development forum.
Do I need the scripts I am not sure what they are for I see the other download links in the post from the link above.
I currently have the 5.03 gain adware pro installed. Do I need to uninstall it and then reinstall it after I install the new GK? I need the codec for bsplayer to work I think or will the one native to GK be installed such that BSplayer can use the GK installed divx5 codec for playback?
Thanks again

If you are interested about Gordian Knot 0.28 this is the correct forum. The Gordian Knot forum is for 0.27 and below at the moment.
No you don’t need the scripts nor either the EXE only.
-The DivX codec you have is fine (is the same as the one in the installer). It is going to work both with GK and bsplayer. You don’t have to uninstall it.
-You need to install the Huffyuv from the codec pack.
-If you want to have ac3-sound and multiple audio streams in your movies then you have to install the AC3Filter and the Audio Playback filters respectively.
-If you intend to encode with DivX 3.11 then you have to install the DivX 3.11 codec, the same applies to XviD codec.
-From the system pack is better to install everything.

I installed GN 0.28 and it seems all the codecs are there and vdub is no longer there but vdubmod is there so I beleive this is all correct. The AC3 filter in the GN install was newer than the one I had so I uninstalled my old one and installed the newer one.
I looked through all the TABs and I noticed a few things:
Curious what the HALF CD is for.
I notice that there are default BIT rates set for the Divx 5 codec for the FIRST and Nth pass of 780. When I use the bitrate TAB it shows a different bit rate than the default so I am not sure if the encoding will be done at the default of 780 or the one shown in the Bitrate Calculation menu. To get a bitrate in Divx 5 higher than 780 do I need to change the default value to the one in the bitrate calculator so I get the maximum bitrate in the encoding that will fit? I guess there may be an advantage to use the default of 780 maybe to make it so the CPU on playback is not overtaxed? Not sure what is best or correct here.
With 0.27 I did an encoding with AC3 and MP3 same movie. The AC3 playback is a little jerky/stutter but the MP3 is perfect. Wondering if this is a bitrate or interleave setting that maybe I need to play with so that is why I asked the previous question.
Thanks for the advice!!!

AFAIK GK will change the bitrate for you, so I think that it's all good. The only thing I've ever set up on the codecs pages are GMC, qpel, psycho visual enhancements, etc.

From my post above:

A little more information. My bitrate is 1389 when I mux in the AC3. I am using the default in GN of interleave every 2 Frame and preload every 500ms. Should I set these different or would this have no effect on the jitter/stutter for playback. I assume if I set this parameter too high then I run the risk of loosing voice sychronization (think I read this somewhere not sure). What do you recommend?
Also my playback CPU % load is only around 30% so the jitter/stutter is not CPU. Also the sound does not have any playback problem only the Video. I tried an encoding (using 0.27) with no sound and this ran smooth. Then I muxed it with the AC3 track using Vdub and it stuttered/jittered so it seems to be a MUX (maybe Interleaving) issue. I just don't know. To get my encodings to play smooth with sound I have to use MP3.
Any ideas? I am doing a new encoding of the same movie with 0.28 and see if there is any difference (from 0.27) for the AC3.
Thanks again.

You could try re-muxing the audio with AVIMux_GUI. I really recommend it over nandub. It helps CDROM's not seek so much when playing, and allows Open-DML output, and some other good stuff.
I always re-mux it from a completed file, so its ok if you dont have the source video and audio.
Get it at:

If you need help working it, you can leave a message here, or talk to me on AIM. My sn is IraAtJuno.

Thanks
I got the program and I am running it with all default settings. Seemed easy to use.
Definitely solved the jitter problem.
Different question:
Not sure wondering what you use for the divx 5 configuration for performance/Quality I am using the default of slowest but really do not know what this means.
Thanks Again

My favorite (and in my tests the best) is to use the little noise filter, no GMC, Bi-directional encoding on, psychovisual enhancements off, and quarter pixel off.
Also always use the "slowest" option. It produces the best reults.

As some of you probably guessed I do lots of TV show rips,
which requires half cd per episode. :)
And yes - you never have to worry about bitrate settings...

I am using the GN 0.28 Beta from sourceforge now.
Question:
I did the compressibility test and got the following
First pass stats: 0.505
Load: 120.7% of 0.418 This is odd as I did the same movie before and I got 77.1 of ??. If I set this movie to 1 CD I get 40.5 which I feel is too low (also get a bitrate of 466) two CD's I get 1389 bitrate. As best I can tell I have all the settings the same.
The 120.7 is in RED so this can't be good. What does this mean?

It means that the file would probably end up undersized, and it would be better to increase resolution of the file.

Thanks. I forgot about that. I started the encoding over.
I am trying IVTC rather than use the Force Film In the past I seem to have better luck with IVTC but it does take almost twice as long to encode. Other than IVYC I set everything for the codec as you stated. I did check the box "IVTC In AVS --> correct frame count" Since I am using IVTC. I guess I do not know why I would not want to choose this option but obviously the default was unchecked so there must be a reason.
I am also trying the split function that was added will see how that goes.
