Discovered the following today and thought I would share this (sorry if it was already discovered by someone else :D)

What you need:
- the mpgaudio.ax file (I found it in the intervideo ac3 filter package)
- The latest PowerDVD XP version (build 2417)
- The latest BSPlayer version

Well, I just registered the mpgaudio.ax file, and then I was able to play AVI with AC3 audio in BSPlayer. Even 5.1 and Dolby Pro-Logic II are possible! (I'm using the analogic outputs of my soundcard)
It works flawlessly! (if you don't get sound at all, then register the intervideo filter as well, but choose cyberlink as playback filter in the properties of BSPlayer)
Settings are possible when you right click on the video window and go to properties.

Using the intervideo filter, I wasn't able to get more than 2-ch output.
And using the AC3 filter from Valex, I couldn't get smooth playback.
