Ok, it's 6am as I type this, I've been up all night, and I have a splitting headache, so if I'm missing something really obvious here, then please don't shout, cos my head won't stand it! :scared:

I've only noticed tonight that Custom Technology have released CCE Basic (I've not been engaged in the forum much recently, so I've not kept bang up to date with developments). Anyway, I'm looking at the zoomed snapshot of CCE Basic, on the homepage, and it seems to me that there is no option for 1pass VBR (I said VARIABLE, not constant!!). This poses the question - is there a workaround for actually creating a valid MPEG file during the 1st pass (as opposed to merely creating a .vif), such that the bitrate settings for the 2nd pass can be adjusted according to the file size of the first pass?

ALSO, in the absence of the "Expert Settings" dialogue, which is exclusive to CCE-SP, is there a workaround for judging the new filesize after settings have been altered in between passes? After each bitrate alteration, CCE-SP gives a nice (if slightly conservative) updated predicted filesize once it has re-planned (with reference to the .vif file) and registers 'clean'. I suspect that this will be impossible with CCE Basic, which is a great shame.

Any feedback on the above two points, particularly from those of you who have actually used CCE-Basic, would be appreciated (I can't test the demo now cos I am at work and it would not be a good idea for me to install demos on a work computer!)

Notwithstanding the above, I think $58 is an absolute bargain. Well done Custom Technology! :)
