View Full Version : Only half size when capturing from DV camera

Trying to get the video out of Sony video camera. Got IEEE1394/USB2 card, installed it. Seems to work fine. In addition to card, software package for video capturing/editing was included. I tried that one and dvio program from links section, but in all cases I get avi file that is half resolution.
This is either limitation of the camera since I cannot find anything about configuring output resolution in camera manuals. Or it has to be configured somewhere like in decoder options, but I couldn't find that so far. Could anyone suggest the normal way to control video resolution when capturing from video camera? Is it camera/os/capture program specific ?

Thank you

Ah, how are you ariving at the conclusion that it is only half resolution? If you have not already done so, open in VDub and see what it says.

If by chance you are playing in WMP and thinking it is so then right click on the screen, select properties, advanced tab, DV Video Encoder and then set to full resolution and then cuss :)

Thanks for the answer, DDogg
I had been sort of confused by the fact that when I opened DV video encoder properties in WMP, it showed me number of resolution options with NTSC half resolution selected. Surely I tried to select full resolution, but was wounded by non-working OK or apply buttons, only Cancel could be used to dispose properties dialog... Maybe something wrong with my installation of WMP, although the same happens on another PC.
Right idea was to try to open this with VDub, it immediately complained about missing dvsd decoder. This made the things perfectly clear: I wrongly assumed that installed video processing software would have installed non-directshow encoder. So after installing the decoder and converting DV format, file is perfectly opened by VDub and AviSynth. That's all I needed.
Thanks !

Your wounds will heal once you press "stop" and do not have "full screen" in WMP :)
