The VCDs created with the help of AVI2VCD / TPMGenc had a jerky playback on the standalone dvd player, so after experimenting a bit, I figured it's an audio which is causing the jerkyness. However, the results still did not reveal the reason of my problem.
Yes, the original .avi had an .mp3 audio, so I tried different methods of encoding with TMPGenc.
.avi + .wav (exctracted with Besweet) => correct playback.
.avi + .mp2(extracted with Besweet) => jerky playback.
.mpg (video encoded with TMPgenc) + .mp2 [multiplexed with either BBMPeg or TMPGenc]=>jerky playback
So it seems that I can achieve correct playback of VCDs/SVCDs only when using .wav audio? This seems absolutely not logical.....
I would appreciate any feedback if anybody else has experienced similar problem, or is it just me.
