View Full Version : Maestro: One audio track must be .ac3 or .pcm when trying to use DTS

I'm thinking that there is something simple that I continue to overlook, but after reading the guide and trying to compile several DVD-Rs with DTS only audio track (to save max room for video quality), I can't seem to get Maestro to want to compile a DVD correctly with only DTS. It keeps telling me that I have to have at least one .ac3 or .pcm digital audio track.

Is the solution something as simple as using a dummy audio track? I'd rather not do that if I don't expressly have to. I want to make sure that the DTS is the only audio option. (PS: I'm simply encoding the movie on a DVD-R withOUT menus, etc.)

Thanks in advance for suggestion/help.

To my knowledge, the DVD Forum (the ones who make the rules about DVD Video) declared that each DVD Video disc must have at least one Dolby Digital or one PCM audio track besides other formats such as MPEG-Audio or DTS, to ensure compatibility with all playing equipment, some of which are not able to handle DTS or MPEG-Audio.

So, I think Maestro is just trying to keep everything by the book. Maybe if you add a dummy AC3 file you can fool it...

That makes sense. I can see why they would require at least a 2 channel linear pcm stream. I'll try finding a small dummy file like that to add to it on the 2nd track with the DTS as the primary (track 1).

While I'm on the subject, I do have another question on this same subject:

When I add a DTS track it shows it as 5 channel instead of 6 channel like it does for the 5.1 channel .ac3 files. Am I losing the sub-woofer .1 channel by using DTS (not a huge deal), or does it just list 5 channel because it's 5.1 and not a full frequency 6 channels (not that 5.1 .ac3 is either ???)

I just finished using DVD Maestro to author a backup of GLADIATOR with DTS soundtrack only and although DVDMaestro warned of the lack of PCM or AC3, I wrote the disk anyway and it worked fine in my Panasonic RP-82...

I've been tempted to do that, but when I preview the movie on my system (prior to burning) using power DVD, there's no sound. My home theatre has DTS decoding (though I believe that the computer can handle that too), but I've never burned the DVD out of fear of burning a movie with only video and no sound. I guess for the .70 that the blank DVD-R costs I should give it a shot, ehh? :)

I have a handful of DVD-RW that I burn to first if there is any question before I burn to DVD-R. I know that I don't have DTS and may not even have DD-AC3 5.1 on the computer that I do my DVD work on, but I relly should install my M-audio USB adapter so I can use PowerDVD to check things like this out. It would save burning the DVD-RW.

Good luck!

I thought I remember seeing a link somewhere on doom9.org where I could download a few dummy audio files of .pcm and .ac3 for aid in accomplishing this task. Does anyone know where that link is? or can I just create an empty text file, name it .ac3 and use that as a dummy audio file? Is there a forum post on how to create a dummy sound file for use with Maestro? For that matter, how can I find ScenaristNT to download? ;)

You can find dummy audio and video files at Trilight's site http://dvdguides.trilight.net/ "Tips and Tricks" section

Your other question is answered here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36236

Actually that doesn't answer my question regarding Scenarist. There are people posting guides and tips and tricks on how to use the program, but you can't tell me that those folks using it paid the $39,000 that the program costs. There's just kind of a subtle hypocritical overtone to the whole thing.

However, thanks for the link to the Audio Dummy files. That was ONE thing that was helpful. ;)

Whether or not other members paid for Scenarist is not at issue. Rule #6 forbids posting information or questions about illegal downloads, and carries a heavy penalty of 2 strikes.

Is that like 2 strikes in baseball, 2 strikes, like when people don't like their employer and refuse to work, or 2 strikes as in 'to be hit or smitten' twice?

Who said anything about illegal software? I simply asked if anyone knew where to get the software.... duh? You posted a link to Sonic's website (which by the way... super DUH?) you CAN'T get the software there. They refer you to a local vendor...

Soooooo, I'd suggest posting a link to one of those vendors or at least specify that you're posting a link NOT in response to an inquiry of "where to get the software", but rather to retarded and ASSUME that they want an illegal, virus infected version for free!

(FYI: My question was more for those who have information of where to get the software of a consumer caliper than the super expensive professional caliper.) If you bothered to ask than to assume you'd have known that. :)

Cheerio!

I guess YOU just don't get it, Scenarist is NOT sold on the internet. The vendors are brick and mortar, and rightfully so for that amount of cash. Any download of Scenarist is illegal.

btw - Doom9 wrote that post, I merely copied it from the Advanced forum when DVD Authoring got split into 2 forums.
