Q1: As some of you know I build my first pc a month or so ago, but what i've notice is that sometimes when I restart my pc it loads up so "SLOW" like nearly 4 to 5 min instead of what i've seen it go at sometimes, and i'm sure you can relize how annoying this can be when you clucking to use your pc !!! So if anyone could shead anylight on this be much appreciated. THANX !!

Q2: I've just built my m8 a pc (don't laugh :D ), it all seem to be going great, i've been using it last night to check it out as best as I can. Now there is a modem installed but he had no driver, I don't know the name or model of the modem only that it's a normal 56k modem. So does he need to buy a new one with the driver or is it possible that xp or a particular site might be able to locate the particular diver for this device ?

Alert!! Q1: cannot be answered, none sufficient information provided!! :D

But seriously, you haven't posted anything useful here for people that might be able to help you in this regard, post some basic info about your system like>O.S,CPU,MAINBOARD etc.

Q2: Now about this modem thing, usually XP doing pretty much dissent job of installing device drivers for an older pc cards, open XP's devise manager, and expand the modem branch (might be also shown as "PCI Communication Device") if it's has a yellow question mark above it, then drivers aren’t installed for this device and you should D/L one of the internet. You can identify your modem model by its chipset number, usually it's a big chip marked like this for example: ESS TeleDrive-2838 or Conexant-2838,its might be anything really.

I had something like that to long ago. In my case it was my network card that had to be completely installed. Even if there was no connection to other computers. Windows try to make that connection and stops when it find no connection. It sounds stuppid but windows checks ip adresses when they are not there it takes the time to find it.:(

SONY007,

I also had the same problem some time ago.. My problem was that I had way too many programs loading up at boot-up, i.e., 'sly' programs that crept into my start-up menu.

If this is the case, i got a couple of neat little programs from this site: http://mlin.net/

The programs you want is Startup Control Panel and Startup Monitor. SCP is used to de-select (by unchecking the box) programs that you do NOT want to start at boot-up / a re-start. SM monitors prompts/warns you any time an app tries to sneak into your start-up menu.. very useful for me.. and best, they're free (donation optional). It's worth a try b/c my boot-up used to take approx. 4-5min too..
