View Full Version : Is it possible for IC, DVD95Copy, or DVD2one to change resolution?

Please forgive me if this is an idiotic question. I am a complete novice.

I was thinking if it were possible for one of these programs to change the DVD resolution of extras from 720x480 to 352x480 it would reduce blocking at low bitrates.

It has been my experience when mpg encoding tvcaps for DVD at low bitrates that the 352x480 standard produces far fewer blocks. The reduced resolution allows for more information per frame, thus reducing blocking.

I know that resolution would be sacrificed, but at least in my experience it is worth the trade-off.

I also know that currently none of the three programs offer this feature, but I thought it worth mentioning as a possible feature in the future, provided it is possible.

Thanks,

Until now I have nmot bought one of these dvd transcoders. I will consider buying one if it offered a resize to 352x480. I have ALOT of TV show DVD's that I want 352x480, and they are packed with data (like 7-8 gigs average)

And @ 720x480 the quality loss is unacceptable, and no extras to be trimmed to speak of.

Heres to hoping.

Also, I dont care if it slows it down either.....

Macanudo,

At that point, you would need a full blown recompressor, like CCE. I don't think the "transcoding" technique could change the resolution, but I could be wrong...

It can, but no one has implemented it. Remember that alot of the theory behind this sort of transcoding was implemented for the real time dispersal of high bandwidth video over IP. (a.k.a. the internet).
