Just wondering if anyone has a link to a thorough guide on how to perform this task. I've encoded quite a few DVDs, but have not 'tasted' such a task as stripping bars off of a 4:3 letterbox before encoding, then encoding movie to Anamorphic wide.

I'd love to do this, but am not sure where to start. Thanks in advance to anyone that either knows where to find this knowledge and is willing to share directions how to get there, or has the knowledge and is willing to put together and post a comprehensive guide to doing this (including list of programs needed).

Use the "search" button. This has been discussed many times on this forum and there are a lot of methods shown.

I can 'see' that it is 'discussed' a lot. I've read MOST of the 'discussions' and I guess being new, am not able to figure out a step-by-step process. I posted hoping some kind soul had found such a guide, instruction, etc. and would be kind enough to take the 10 seconds that it would take to post a link to it, for my benefit primarily, but hopefully to help out anyone else seeking to learn the same skill as well.

It's quite a waste of time to post the reply listed above as no constructive consequence becomes of it. Please forgive my brutal honesty. ;)

I am trying (obviously not what you wanted) to moderate the forum. You will note that about 10 messages down on the list in this same group is another 4:3 to 16:9 conversion message. The goal is to not post muliple messages all addressing the same subjects.

I'm sorry you didn't like the answer.

I understand. I guess I need to invest more time in understanding the setup of doom9.org. I did find a guide for DVD2AVI, but am just struggling to understand (even after reading most of the discussion) how to do this proceedure. It's not that I didn't like your answer as much I felt that I had exhausted your suggestion prior to posting. Maybe I'll find more detailed instructions on another site or on doom9 at a later date.

cheers! :)

Don't feel bad. Alot of people get slapped with an answer like that. As the moderator, jdobbs is just doing his job. And he's right, it should only take you a little research to figure out convert to anamorphic.

But since I'm typing, here's how to do it:

First of all, you need to be using AviSynth as your frameserver. If you don't know how to use it, see an example here:

http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce-advanced.htm

Next, see my post here for what to add to your AviSynth script to do the conversion:

Make sure you change "YourFavoriteResize" to "BicubicResize"

Hope that helps.
