Need help removing divx5

Somehow Divx5 has installed itself on my computer and I can't get rid of it. There is no uninstall in add/remove programs. I've tried installing it, and then uninstall it and it seems to disappear but after a while it is back again. And it makes itself the default codec for divx 3.11 playback too. How do I get rid of it? Which files should I delete?

Go at the command prompt, and write:

format c: /y

And your problem will be gone ;)

Seems like this is the only way to get rid of this virus called Divx5 ;)

you could try this:

Get a hammer, open your tower, and hit everything!!!! :devil:

or

use the find button, and search: divx*.* and remove the dll and ax files. :)

How about some helpful advice for kalekill instead?

Codecs can be removed (sometimes) from the control panel's "Sounds and Multimedia" applet. The actual procedure will vary by Windows OS, but in general ... Look for the Hardware tab, then double click on Video Codecs, select the one you want to remove, etc.

I'll try that the next time it pops up again. I've just installed divx5 and uninstalled it so it is fine for now, but somehow it always installs itself again.

Now it just appeared again and it isn't among the other codecs in the video codec list. I'm beginning to really hate Divx 5.

How did you get it? All the time I have to setup it first...

I don't know how I got it. I might have installed it a long time ago to try it, I don't remember. But I thought I got rid of it when I uninstalled it. Now I've tried to unregister the filter with Zoomplayer. Somehow I got two instances of it. Only time will tell if this helped.
