View Full Version : Cut out a piece of movie

Can you tell me the best way to cut out (physically - not the skipping trick) unwanted piece of movie from the original DVD, but in such way so after removal of that unwanted piece I could burn the whole movie to DVDR without that unnecessary scene?
Do I have to cut out the whole cell or is it possible to cut out only a part of it?
Will the audio and subtitles be also removed after the removal of video?
Isn't it possible to do it without re-encoding, using Vobrator or IfoEdit at the Vob level?

I'd like to remove exactly the same amount of audio + video + subtitles.

Is it really so difficult that no one knows the answer?

To edit a video stream you can use Maestro, but then you will have sync problems so you would have to edit the audio, too. I don't know any software you can edit AC3-streams -or even DTS- like this so if there really isn't any you would have to convert it to .wav and loose the surround sound.. and so on. So you've got to ask yourself if it's worth the effort. Anybody else?

u can use Scenarist for this. Just define a scene for the unwanted part and don't include it in the scenario editor. It just disappears. This way u r removing audio and relevant subs as well.

TB you cannot edit, but you can cut ac3 and dts streams using BeSplit..

For example:
Whole movie time: 150 minutes
Unwanted scene time: 30 minutes
Movie time after removal of unwanted scene: 120 min. Am I right?

What about video+audio+subtitles sync?

They r lost. U simply choose not to include them in the final image.

Once again please.

For example:
Whole movie time and size: 150 min, 5GB
Unwanted scene time and size: 30 min, 1GB
Movie time and size after removal of unwanted scene: 120 min, 4GB? Am I right? Or 120min and 5GB?

Just try it out..
But I think in general you can't say it like that, because some scenes (e.g. action-scenes) need more bitrate than other and thus more space..

Can I do it using DVDShrink? (option Re-author / Start-End)
e.g. I want cut the last 20 min. movie but without re-encoding session.
It's possible?

Yes - do it with DVD shrink and then re-join the vobs with vobedit.
Afterwards, put the new vobset in the film directory - add the menu structure AND commands and get vts-sectors. I can do this but its too much to exlain in detail so look at these threads for clues as I've explained the procedures before.

You can even do this with DVDShrink:

I had an anime episode disc that had 4 episodes and the same
intro before each episode.

I wanted to remove the 4 intros because it was just wasted space.
So I chose re-author, dragged over the 4 titles, and then
adjusted the start/stop for each individual title.

DVDShrink did a wonderful job with it. Smooth transitions between
titles, and I can still fast forward/backward between titles/chapters.

I routinely use Shrink to remove the intros and credits of movies
that are long to reduce the amount of compression I need to use.

I do this with Maestro all the time, Usually to cut out end credits on movies that are JUST a tad over the 4.38 limit. Just rip with strems proccessing enabled using demux for all assets you want to keep and import them into Maestro. Then just go to the end of the video file and move it to the left until it's at the point you want then right click the audio track on the timeline and sync audio. No recode needed.
