I am using ffvfw, and I would like to do a 2 pass encode on my file, I have all of my settings etc, I am kind of new to this whole encoding thing, so I as wondering if there is any sites out there that could be of help, I've searched around here but Have not seen a guide yet, and I browsed through the forums.
Basically How do I go about doing the 2 pass with stats file? Nandub is easy because it has the option for 2 pass lol. I figure my best way would be to do a 1 pass quality, then do a 2 pass with Alt. Curve, but when I try that it gives me some video error (-100).
If somebody could take the time to help a noob out (Boy how many times have we heard this before?)
Thanks!

Why don't you use XviD, DivX or RealVideo 9? MP4v3 is god damn old! :devil:
[edit]
Try RV9 you'll like it :)

Sirber IIRC he is talking about ffvfw's MSMPEG4v3 compatability mode and not MSMPEG4v3 itself.
@Zerox
If you are new to encoding what was your influence to pick up ffvfw? I don't know if there is a new version out but the last one was not that stable and did not outperform it's competitors. Add to that it being the most complex MPEG4 codec to use. hdot264 is the only codec I can think of that is more so.

Well, I have been messing with Divx 5.0+, Div3 (SBC), and all of that and so far Messing with ffvfw MPEG4, and encoding it into Mp43, It seems to get some pretty nice results for the anime I am encoding. It just doesn't work to well on dark scenes, it gets a pretty crisp picture though.

Getting good results eh? I tried it on anime but I was not impressed at the time. Anime is a hard thing to encode well with any MPEG4 codec ATM. And quite honestly I do not know any good settings for ffvfw especially when it comes to anime. Xvid is my main work horse followed by Divx5.
About the best thing to do in this instance might be to studdy and look at fansubs. Many of the better fansubs no matter what codec they are in seem to have a relatively short keyframe interval. Normally for NTSC a kf interval of about 300 max is recommended. These seem to have a max interval of 100 or less. And when encoding in general 2-pass is one of the best methods. Just make sure that your bitrate averaging period is at least 10000 frames in Xvid and about half the frames in Divx5. Of course there are plenty of things those groups do wrong. VBR MP3 audio. And it seems Soldats does not know the rule about encoding to resolutions that are multiples of 4. The horisontal res on Groove Adventure Rave was not even divisable by 2.:mad: I'll trust you know where to get fansubs or already have some to look at. Because even though it is technically legal for me to talk about fansubs and sites I can't really give you any links without kinda violating the boards rules. I will give you 1 clue. There is a program called "bittorrent". Type it into google. It is an awesome program. I am looking at setting it up on my linux box.
Perhaps I will get ffvfw back out and look at it again. I was getting ready to re-do my old Akira DVD just as soon as I finish out the last few episodes of haunted junction and my last Futurama captures.
