a. would it be possible to make an editor (gui) based on avisynth for nonlinear, audio|video multitrack editing? (i was reading some stuff about avisynth but it is unclear if i can get the multitrack audio into it somehow - that would be used for preview when editing and eventualy for downmix), the output would be some sort of avi file and/or avs script and/or some sort of edl (cmx 3600?)

b. is there an exact overview over cmx3600 format somewhere on the net (google didnt really help)?

i'm looking for a non-linear editor myself for xvid/divx input and stream-copy functionality (so i don't recompress the video); i tried avitricks but it seems a little simplistic, and has crashed frequently... :(

Lots of things have changed sense 4/2003, and then not.
But what you seek is being talked about and worked on in some measure.
