I had a good look at Desktop DVD Authoring a couple days ago at Borders. I wouldn't recommend this book unless you're a total beginner and don't know where to start. It tries to give an introduction on many programs for both Mac and PC platforms. To name a few: DVD Studio Pro and iDVD for Mac, Sonic DVDit, ReelDVD and Scenarist for PCs. Most of us have either PC or Mac, so half of the book would be useless. Besides, it touches only the surface of these programs. Thin book, too many programs to cover, you figure it out.

DVD Demystified is an absolute must-have, particularly for its tables on SPRM's, programming commands, and language codes (I find IFOEdit/VOBEdit impossible to use without it). DVD Authoring and Production (which is what I assume you mean by "DVD Authoring") is fairly good, but is more oriented to starting up your own DVD production house. However, if you happen to own Scenarist, then it does a better job than the documentation in showing you some of that program's tricks.
