Anyone else seen this problem? I have a couple of G03 Ritek's burned with IC on a sony 500AX(new internal one from sony).

The problem is that after burning, neither my DVD +/-R,RW nor my DVD-rom drive will recognize the DVD-R as a valid disc. BUT, my old Generation 1 or 2 Sony standalone will play the discs with no complaints. Its nice that I have a backup, but I can't re-backup the backups some day if I need to since the PC will not read the discs.

Very strange......

can your DVD-ROM read DVD-R?

does it work with DVD-R's burnt with other software?

try this very useful tool, tells you everything you need to know about DVD drives and DVD media

Not sure if the DVD-rom will read DVD-Rs. Strange, that not even the burner will read it, but the standalone will.

I will try out the tool you suggested later tonight.

thanks!

What OS? And do you have another computer, or a friend, to check this out on? It could be software.

I'm using XP Home Edition, w/ all current updates.

"And do you have another computer, or a friend, to check this out on? It could be software."

DOH! I should have thought of that. :o I'll have to check around since most of my near by friends are a little less on the cutting edge(i.e. most don't have a DVD-rom drive! lol).

Its a strange problem. I've tried DVD Decrypter, PowerDVD, WinDVD and all complain about not being able to read the disc. Also, Windows "my computer" will not show it either. It must be directly related to the hardware.

I'm getting a Sony firewire multiformat drive at the end of this month and will check using previous IC-burned dvd-r's generated on a Pioneer A03 drive and a Panasonic LF-D321 drive. My OS (XP pro) is similar to yours. I'll also try to burn a dvd-r using the sony drive.

I have noticed that on the Pioneer drive, you cannot access the burned disc using Explorer after you close IC. Does your problem persist even after you eject/re-insert the disc, or reboot your computer?
